Effexor with amisulpride

Posted by Bob Forsyth on January 21, 2014, at 15:36:34

I currently take 300mg Venlafaxine and 1OO MG amisulpride for OCD. I feel exceptionally tired and it's a struggle to maintain normal functioning like working or even washing because of the excess fatigue. My personal hygiene has gone very bad.I find if I don't take the amisulpride I am not fatigued but I am depressed and not mentally well. Things like concentration, memory and even tasting food can be problematic off the amisulpride. Something about the combination makes me mentally well but physically shatters me. What should I do ?

What happens when you reduce the dosage of Effexor?

You might consider switching from amisulpride to Abilify (aripiprazole). It works well for depression and can be activating. Another possibility is to try adding Wellbutrin (bupropion) or a stimulant. I think you need to figure out which drug is causing the fatigue before proceeding.

OCD involves a lack of seratonin in regions of the brain and often a surplus of dopamine, especially in the nucleus accumbens. Taking the Venlafaxine corrects the imbalance of seratonin while the Amisulpride lowers dopamine levels. The APA recommends the combination of an AD and an AAP in the treatment of OCD.

That said, you can swap the Amisulpride out for another atypical antipsychotic that doesn't sedate you.

Fatigue and malaise at that dose of effexor seems likely to me. Mileage varies.

I've been on amisulpride several times. Except for the total sexual numbing it did to me, I think it is one of the best meds on earth. My favorite dose was 25mg which had decent antidepressant, good social ability, and a slight stimulation. Higher than 25mg brought me flatness and tiredness.

Maybe try playing with the dose? Take to to maybe 75mg? 50mg? 25mg? Hopefully one of those adjustments will work for you, because amisulpride is that sensitive to dose size. If not, then you may need to consider a switch. Abilify or zyprexa. I do like amisulpride though so I hope you can find a way to make it work.

I do not like the effexor in your cocktail. That is too difficult and iffy to change at the moment so no comment on that, except that I wish you were not on it.
