I like the choice of depakote for racing thoughts and hyperactivity. There is so much crossover between various diagnosis. But no matter how it is seen, it is overstimulation that needs to be calmed down and that's generally was depakote does.
I took it for several months for supposed bipolar and depression, added to lexapro and zyprexa. It didn't help my depression at all but it was calming. The only side effects I had were weight gain and one or two sleepy attacks during the day.
But, I see depakote and all psych meds as temporary aids to help control symptoms and buy some time....so we can concentrate on diagnosing and fixing stuff, the stuff that's causing the hyperactivity in the first place. I believe most of our psychiatric symptoms originate from environmental insults such as toxin accumulation, hidden infection, and the resulting inflammation of both. Not to mention our foods. I have seen psych symptoms totally disappear more than once when someone I knew went gluten free. That's inflammation again.
Oddly enough, the best place to learn about all that stuff is by studying how to naturally treat Lyme disease. The tools in the Lyme box can improve a psych patient's chances immensely. imo
For now, I don't see a problem with depakote. Other choices could be seroquel, zyprexa, xanax, klonopin, valium, lamictal, lithium, ssri antidepressants....depakote sounds good to me.
If that didn't go well, my second choice would be zyprexa.
This is the end of the thread.
