Hi, has anyone had success with Nardil and not had insomnia as a side effect? If you did have insomnia, what did you successfully treat the insomnia with?

I take nardil (have been on it for ~ 6 months) and it has completely turned my life around
I got some insomnia during the first week - took 50mg of Seroquel an bedtime to help counter this.

That is excellent. Does the Seroquel completely get rid of the insomnia? Do you feel well rested and alert? How long were you depressed for before you found Nardil? Thanks so much.

The insomnia only persisted for the first week or so, and the Seroquel did help it, not totaly, but quite a bit
I started feeling better within a week of starting the nardil - though some take much longer

Hi, just starting generic nardil today. What dose are you on? So happy you are having a good response at an early date. That is promising news.

Did well for about 2 weeks, now having an increase in depressive thinking, not suicidal though.
At 45 mg maybe I need to go up to 60 mg. No insomnia other than a night or two.Hopefully NArdil will work, I don't know what else might work as so many have failed. I'm starting to give up on ever beating this lifelong depression. 40 years is enough.

>Hi Guys,
I haven't been on here for forever but was just stalking and saw your questions about Nardil. I have been on Nardil for most of 15 years. The insomnia is one side effect that I have not been able to beat. Luckily, I am really sensitive to the histamine receptor meds. Low dose Seroquel at 12.5 to 25 mg is the best for me, but with my crappy insurance it is very expensive. I can usually get by with 50 to 75 mg of Benadryl also.Nardil is the only medication that has worked for my treatment resistant, atypical, double depression. Please feel free to Google my thoughts on Nardil over the years: https://www.google.com/#q=nardil+jedi+site:dr-bob.org
You will probably need to put in some more qualifiers as there were over hits when I ran the above query.Nardil can be the miracle drug that works when all others fail.
Good Luck,
Jedi

Hey Stranger!
I am delighted to know that you have been doing so well for so long. Sorry about the insomnia. What kind is it?
Have you tried low doses of doxepin? It is usually safe to combine with Nardil, despite being a TCA. It could be an inexpensive replacement for Seroquel. Amitriptyline has been used with Nardil also, but serotonin syndrome is a concern. The TCAs most likely to produce serotonin syndrome when combined with Nardil are imipramine and clomipramine.
Of course, you can always read my posts at bedtime.

> - ScottThanks a lot Scott. I will check into the doxepin. I have always admired your wealth of knowledge on this board. I have use Nortriptyline with Nardil. Was not a problem for me.
I know my insomnia is med induced. When I am able to lower my Nardil dosage to 30mg it pretty much goes away. I am just really lucky that I react the way I do to the histamine receptor drugs. Gives me a lot of choices that others don't have.
Thanks again,
Jedi

the insomnia is a part of the profile there are two symptoms that nardil that you will have to live with they are insomnia and weight gain but if you use enteric capsules to put your nardil into you will almost eliminate these side effects
