Does Trileptal actually drop your body's sodium level? What are the side effects or what would like feel like? Does it mess up your ph balance?
My doctor is stumped and has run all kinds of bloodwork. My regular doc doesn't know anything about Trileptal!
I hate salt or salty foods, so I'm wondering if the swelling is caused actually from a lack of sodium or a drop of sodium or if my body's ph is off due to Trileptal use. Even though I hate salt I drink tons of water, so it wouldn't be unusual for my body to be low in sodium.
My husband thinks my ph is off and I might have gout. He thinks I need to use a little baking soda to get my ph bad to alkaline.
Any help on this subject would be great. I love Trileptal.

My bloodwork has always been one number below normal for sodium but I drink a lot of water. That is what causes mine I think. No swelling though. Phillipa

Trileptal only requires a little bit of blood work...for blood sodium. Ideally, you do a baseline and another check later, I think 12 weeks in, and again if problems pop up.

My doc never tested me, even when I mentioned the blurred, impaired vision, cloudy urine, joint pain, etc.
She ran all kinds of bloodwork and is leaning towards an autoimmune disorder, like lupus, with RA. Yikes!
She did mention a slight risk with Tegretol and Trileptal of drug induced lupus.
I need to tell her to do a blood test for the Trileptal.

Quite a few meds can cause a drug lupus like minocycline but it goes away about a year after stopping. I never had blood drawn when I took a low dose of trileptal. But times change maybe now they do blood draws? Phillipa
