...clarity. Good stuff.
I had the Ultimate Psychotic Break 6 years ago. Psychosomatic regression. Complete psychotic break, plus my personality disintegrated (hence the "psychosomatic regression"), plus I had cachexia, plus hallucinations, plus I was subjected to a heavy round of involuntary ECT (that or a state mental hospital).
Fast forward 6 years...
..I'm with vocational rehab. I'm lucid. My cognitive skills are back up. My hair's grown back. I'm on 4 meds (Prozac, abilify, trileptal, Neurontin) and doing quite well. I do Orthomolecular. I get along with people.
As a side note...I'm a Born Again Christian. One of the cool things about Christianity is that you get to start all over. "A new creation in Christ Jesus." Take it or leave it--that's up to you--but that's my belief system. And its beautiful!
I get to not only have my faith, I get to build a whole new personality, now that I've wandered through the wilderness all these years. I don't expect much-- a little job, maybe get a degree sometime relatively soon and move on--but its a beautiful thing, Christianity. And new beginnings.
Anyway...yeah...I've made peace with madness. Meds aren't terrible. They don't really "cure" anything, but they're often quite useful, even lifesaving. Even State Mental Hospital-material people like me can recover, given time, a place to live, resources, and rehabilitation.
