Hello,
I have Depression, OCD and insomnia diagnosis.
The depression and the OCD are under control with current medication.
However insomnia is NOT. I was taking Mirtazapine 30mg for about 9 years and now it appers to pooped out for sleep.
Now I'm considering switching to a TCA to help with insomnia.
I have tried Amitriptyline 25mg and 50mg with no good results.
I have been told that Doxepin is a much stronger 5HT2A blocker than Mirtazapine or Amitryptiline.
Should I go for Doxepin or maybe another TCA and what dose do you suggest?
Thanks for your help!

Welcome to babble. I don't know the answer to your question but am glad a portion of your problem is under good control. Don't know the TCA's but I did once take a low dose of nortrip and it definitely tired me. I take benzos for sleep. Phillipa

Doxepin would be worth a try
If you need a hypnotic long term, it can be usefull to rotate them so that tolorance/poop out doesnt set in
Say, doxepin or Seroqule for 2 nights, then Ambien or Restoril for 2 nights, then back to doxepin or seroquel, and so on and so on

If you need a TCA that works for OCD too, there is clomipramine (Anafranil). You may add mianserin for sleep. Is mianserin available in your country?

Trimpramine?
15mg is all I take and it is quite humane, unlike 25mg ami certainly.

Hello Christ_empowered,
In my country there is no Surmontil available, so I have ordered from an online pharmacy.
It should arrive in 7 days.
I have ordered Doxepin 25mg caps and Trimipramine (Surmontil) 25mg caps also, so I ordered both to make the trial.
Which one of those do you think has better chances to help?

I currently take Amitriptyline 50mg and feel no hangover next day. Also it is important to say that Amitriptyline doesnt help me to fall asleep.
I guess if doxepin or trimipramine will ..
