Hello all,
I began taking 2.5 mg of Abilify about a month ago. I must say it has powerful antidepressant properties but I have noticed that I tend to feel fidgety, can't sit still and enjoy my favorite tv shows and feel like I should be doing something. Is this what Akathisia is like? It is really annoying, as it doesn't allow me to relax. What do you recommend I do? I'm not bipolar it was added to my ad as adjunct augment therapy. Does this normally go away? Or should I just stop it and try something else. Also, does anyone know when is the new AD Brintallix (forgive spelling) will be on the market? Thanks and happy week.

Yeah, it sounds like mild akathisia. You could try augmenting it with a beta-blocker, N-acetylcysteine or Vitamin B6 if the anti-depressant effect is truly not worth giving up. I have no idea how safe it is to remain on a drug that's causing akathisia though.

I'm not sure, Phillipa. Google B6+akathisia, there's a lot of information.

I know you're on a very low dose already, but Abilify is certainly a potent drug - as demonstrated by the powerful effects you've experience already. Perhaps you could reduce the dose for a few weeks and see how you do, you could try 1-2mg/day, or 2.5mg on alternate mornings. Alternatively, you could ask your doc about adding a very low-dose muscle relaxant benzo for the next 2 weeks or so eg. diazepam 2mg three times a day, lorazepam 0.5mg twice a day, or clonazepam 0.25mg twice a day.
This is the end of the thread.
