Anxiety Underneath Cloud Of Insomnia. Help!

Posted by babbler20 on October 13, 2013, at 22:32:57

I have finally successfully treated my 20-year struggle with insomnia. For the last 20 years, my fatigue from being an insomniac covered up my anxiety. Since I have been able to sleep again, I have the most unbearable anxiety you could imagine. My feet cramp up all day, I get short of breath, and I have a tremor in both my hands and my feet. Has anyone else experienced this since resolving their struggle with insomnia? How long did it take to go away?

How did you go about resolving your insomnia? Knowing what drugs you are currently taking would be helpful.

What drugs have you tried for anxiety?

Hang in there. No need to check-out just yet...

Hi, thanks for your response. I had tried every sleep medication available and then I finally tried Remeron. As soon as I started sleeping again, I started to think clearly again, which was great, but I had the most horrible anxiety. I've tried zoloft, luvox, imipramine, and Klonopin. I also tried all of the other SSRI's as a teenager, but none of them were helpful for depression or anxiety.

Remeron can cause anxiety, though it might be masked by the sedative effects.

What dose are you on?

I've worked my way down to 7.5 mg. My doc told me that my anxiety probably isn't from the remeron. I was on 80 mg at one point. Did remeron give you anxiety or cause you to hyperventilate at some point?

Yes, it caused severe anxiety at 30mg, but if you were fine at 80mg, I doubt it's the culprit.

I was even more anxious on 80 and very agitated. Every time I talked to someone it sounded like I was yelling at them. This could have been because I was burned out from work and had the most stressful job in the world. I was laid off at 80 mgnd as I've titrated down my stress has been significantly reduced so I don't know if its the remeron or not.

What about using Seroquel for sleep / anxiety? It's a miracle drug for some people. Seroquel also has antidepressant effects.

Strange as I was given 15mg of remeron took for a month along with benzos and I think it was luvox and noticed nothing. After a month I just stopped taking it. I thought it had antihistamine properties? Phillipa

SLS,

I've tried Seroquel and it was a little too powerful for me, eve. At the lowest dose. I may go off the Remeron with my doctors permission and see if the anxiety goes away. Fingers crossed

Phillipa,

Remeron is one of those drugs that you would have noticed it right away. At least for me, it knocked me out cold for 14 hrs during the first week. If you were taking antihistamines at the time I'm guessing you built up a tolerance to that effect, as it supposedly sedated the same way antihistamines do.

Get a pill splitter and chop up those 25 mg Seroquel tabs into quarters and try from there.

Seroquel has been a miracle drug for me, and I know others too, that have a good effect from Seroquel. It gives me much more sleep, it works for depression and anxiety and it works against racing thoughts and worries.
