I think it warrants a lot of merit as already DBS is being used. Let's face it for so many meds don't work or if they do you are worse first which doesn't make sense to me. Only meds where not worse first are the benzos. Phillipa

The problem is that magnetic devices are not all that targeted and many people would rather swallow a pill than have an electrode hanging out of their skull.
Also, I am not convinced that all mood disorders can be treated by maniupalting brain circutry externally.
Take low thyroid for example. Thyroid deficiency can cause depression. Why bother trying to plant electrodes in the brain if taking oral thyroid is all that is required? Have we given up on the notion that other forms of depression are also caused by a biochemical deficiancy or imballance?
