I wonder if back 80 years ago people just didn't ignore it? Was psychiatry using meds 80 years ago? Phillipa

Well id like to see someone exposed to psychiatry over decades at the end of his life and say "thank god for psychiatry, it made my life happier and more content".

Actually I was just talking to someone the other day (who is probably about 70 years old) with Bipolar 1 and their life was completely turned around by Lithium. He said when he took it for the first time he felt better in a matter of minutes. But that kind of success story is rare. Usually it's more like "yeah, meds kept me from killing myself and that's about it"

i met a woman at an inpatient unit, and she had said she took Prozac for 25 years. basically since the day it came out. she haad also taken many other meds over the years. but, basically she had been exposed to psychiatry and their meds for most of her life. (she was probably about 40 years old) but, though she acted normal, her appearence was odd. her hair was sticking almost straight up. she looked almost normal weight, but her belly was very big and sticking out. her eyes were always wide open, red and bulging out.

was it the medicine/chemicals she had her brain flooded with that did this to her? or was it just her? if not n her situation, but in someone elses, i can guarantee it was the medicine. But a psychiatrist would never tell you this.

Well, my Dad is 76, and he and I always talk about mental illness, and that his meds (going on 25+ years)have helped and saved him.

Jay

p.s. you can just wire me the money :)

Alright, so there are sideshows.. although its questionable if lithium helped in a matter of 30 minutes, its sounds like big time placebo to me.
