I have been on 40mgs of Prozac for over a 3 months now, along with 300mgs of bupropion. It hasn't done a damn thing to touch my atypical depression symptoms (tiredness, appetite, anxiety).
My doc said if this didn't work we're moving to MAOI's....

Please elaborate on this! This is the first time I have heard of it. Are you suggesting BPII?

I'm at work right now and very busy (RN). I'll gladly elaborate more when I get home today. I will also send you some educational links. I basically diagnosed myself after years of trying various ADs. I did alot of research and went into my pdoc and told him to put me on Lamictal in addition to my AD. Life is good. Been on it for about 10 years with Effexor.mHow old were you, sleep patterns, appetite, what all meds you tried, combination, etc...faimily history. Please tell me all of your symptoms.

Cool.
30yo male.
Sleep patterns are a little off. I do tend to wake once sometimes twice in the middle of the night, but fall right back to sleep.
appetite... ALWAYS hungry! Cravings for chocolate, carbs, anything sweet and comforting.
Meds...
Prozac and Wellbutrin currentlyPast... Paxil, Effexor, Cymbalta, lexapro, celexa, zoloft, trazadone, applenzine, bupropion (sr, and xl).
I've also been to 3 differenty endo's and had 2 sleep studies done. All perfectly normal.
Family history with depression is extensive.
Symptoms. Always exhausted. Wake exhausted, go through the day just wanting to sleep. Appetite I already told you about, but this is another symptom. I go through the day looking forward to the next meal. I am anxious out in public and a tad of social anxiety. I also have a hard time with rejection and I always feel like I just got done a heavey arm workout.
Thanks!

No mania at all, ever. I have always just felt tired, down, hungry, fatigued.
Anxiety isn't that bad, really.

So you think there isn't a point in going on a mood stab? None of my pdocs have ever mentioned this, either.

Polarbear206:
Thanks, but I've been all over both of those sites before. I'm more interested in your story. Did you have mania? I do not. My symptoms are always present and have only gotten better once, when I was on a vacation and actually happy.

I would move Heaven and Earth to go back to that vacation destination, if you were happy, and stay there permanently...: )...I know-life has other plans.

And now that you mention it, I never have neck or back pain while on vacation, and I feel so energized and alive, anywhere I go, but particularly if it involves salt water.

No mania, I had periods of more energy and being more productive. Still slept but needed less.Anxiety and irritable moods. Lows were sleeping for 12 hrs, craving carbs, body aches, felt like my limbs weighed a ton. Every thing was an effort. Didn't want to go out and socialize. AD alone made the lows lower and anxiety worse. When the seasons change I would have problems adjusting and go through a funk. Mostly have the depression since onset which was after my son was born.

I don't have any highs, actually. Just tired all day. Thank you for the suggestion, though. I will bring it up with my pdoc.

Actually, you don't have to have "highs" My mixed states anxiety was very bad. Your symptoms can overlap too.

Interesting. I see my Pdoc on Thursday. I will bring it up to her. Maybe I will see if she wants to try me on a mood stablizer before moving to an MAOI.
