I like the feeling I get from AP's (low dose combined with AD's) freeing me from the thought that I am at the mercy of the thoughts and desires of others, that people are always against me.
It also frees me from aversion of and anxieties around sex.
However, Risperdal made me feel weird and panicky and almost psychotic after a week or so.
Abilify made me feel so distant from people that I wondered if I was a psychopath. It also ratcheted up my drinking and smoking behaviors and made exercize very difficult at only 2 mgs. I largely ignored my existing family and friends in favor of fishing and drinking and hooking up.
since coming off Abilify I've been in the worse depression. A little better by doubling my Celexa. But I am back to concentrating on the disapproval of others and all my insecurities. Also not even trying to date or have sex.
Doctor suggested Geodon at a low dose as it shouldn't affect my muscle strength like Abilify, but I don't know if it's worth what it might do to my brain. I fear I might have been permanently altered by the abilify.
I know a lot of these problems are likely psychological, but Ive got schizophrenia and bipoloar in my family in spades, plus I did a fair amount of drugs in college and fear I knocked something loose. That's when all of this fear started. And years of therapy hasn't really made it dissipate by much.
Back to my question...any idea if Geodon with help with all this fear without the side effects from the other AP's? Worth a try?
Thanks

I'd say go for it if you've benefited from APs in the past. Start with a low dose and go from there. Good luck.

I think it would be worth it to try Geodon. I didn't have weight gain or restlessness like I got from other atypicals. It helps mania for sure but it didn't help with my depression.
I always wondered why more people weren't taking Geodon since it doesn't seem to have the weight gain issue like the other atypicals, and the only thing i can think is that maybe it just isn't an effective med. But it sounds like it might be worth trying for you.

I guess I should have been more clear...I'm not dying to get back on an AP but I miss my social and sex life. I'm hoping it will have some of the benefits.
That being said, is there a crazy adjustment period to Geodon that will make me crawl out of my skin or feel, well, crazy? I'm not sure how long I should commit and if I should avoid it before teaching classes or other sensitive situations.
Cheers

I tolerated Geodon fairly well. It didn't give me the crazy restlessness that Abilify did. I would watch out for sedation though.

> I am reading lots of horror stories about it on Crazymeds...especially how tough it is to come off it. I'm hesitant...abilify effed me up for so long afterwards.
