In 14 days I've lost 12 pounds. Haven't exercised yet at all. Zero side effects.
It's very motivating to see and makes you feel that maybe there is hope for antipsychotic blimpism.

Thanks for the report, Phil. I look forward to your continued success with metformin. For reasons that I don't fully understand, my doctor did not like the idea of my taking metformin. Maybe I should send him some studies.

Yeah that huge Chinese study from '08 I think. Another study one of the researchers said, after seeing positive results, maybe it's time we think differently about how we look at this drug.
I figured that the way things were going I'd be on it sooner or later. How ignorant of doctors to not head things off at the pass and give their patients a shot at losing weight.
I'll find another doctor if he pulls me off of this drug unless he has a darn good reason.

Phils that's fabulous. I leaned last night that my neice also takes it via her endo due to the fact that she had gestational diabetes many years ago. But evidently he's using it to prevent diabetes. And 12 pounds is a lot !!!!. Are you feeling better with the move? Phillipa

I should add that during this period I've been more active. Active as in moving though a moving company did the heavy lifting.
Also since I'm seeing some weight loss I'm trying very hard not to eat too much.
But even though I hoped for modest weight loss and turning things away from Diabetes I would have been almost happy watching my weight stop climbing.http://www.soulcysters.net/showthread.php/197734-How-much-weight-did-you-lose-with-Metformin

Some evidence and some anecdotal evidence of weight loss while using Metformin in treating antipsychotic weight gain.

Not everyone will be helped by taking Metformin but if nothing else it can get blood work in line with not getting Diabetes. Most report about a 7% weight loss on Metformin, some much more, and some not any. But not everyone gains a pound on Zyprexa or Seroquel. Not because they are special but because they don't have the gene variant that us weight gainers do.
Again, if my weight loss goes to 15 pounds and stops, I'll ask my doctor to up the dose. If he refuses, I'll get off of the offending med.But being obese and the multitude of problems associated with it is much worse.

Much appreciated. What do you think of using metformin for AP-induced weight gain?

Of course you have to control your carb intake. Like me for instance in Walmart yesterday. Ok, it was a small impulse buy. :(

Hi Scott,
not doing too badly, the 30mg of mirtazapine has made a marginal improvement in my anxiety, in a week I go upto 45mg, see what that does for me.
If it isnt enough, I will ask about changing to NARDIL
How are you doing?

Not too bad. I am not doing as well as I would have hoped at this juncture, but I am certainly better now than I was a year ago. The last few days have been disappointing, though. I think that the dosages of the 7 medications I'm taking are all tweaked optimally. I only recently increased the dosage of Lamictal from 200 mg/day to 300 mg/day. The only side effect that has emerged is an incease in hand tremors. I am pleased to report that I am not experiencing a worsening of cognitive and memory impairments. My doctor wants me to try methylphenidate, but I have been reluctant to do so. He prescribed a couple of pills for me to play with. I will probably give it a try later in the week. The goal of using methylphenidate is not to produce a euphoric antidepressant effect, but to improve cognition and reduce brain-fog.
