I have to be creative when it comes to a med with antidepressant side effects.
Lamictal, even at low doses felt like speed to me. Not sure that's good, I couldn't sleep.
Abilify made me hungry and gain weight, but I know a lot of people take it effectively for depression.
Geodon works at 40mg for my depression, but at 20mg it depresses me. Very weird.
I worry about the hear palps with Geodon. Maybe I should just go back to low dose Lamictal? Is it safer?

Since we are all individuals and unique. I feel what works for one might not necessarily work for another. So it's hard to tell. I say this as I once took lamictal only got to 50mg but noticed nothing. Phillipa

Yea, I notice Lamictal at just 25mg.
I've just heard more people with BPII taking Lamictal, even as an add on and not so many people using Geodon.
I know you have to watch out for the dreaded rash with Lamictal, but other than that, I think it might be better than the antipsychotic Geodon with its heart issues.
Isn't Lamictal an anti-seizure med?

Lamictal is an anti-seizure med. The therapeutic dose is considered 200mg. I have absolutely no side effects, no more than taking a multi-vitamin a day. It helps stabilize moods, but is not an anti-depressant or anti-mania drug. I know others report side-effects though.

Lamictal makes me feel the same as being on Adderall. Doesn't matter if I take 12.5 or 100mg, it makes me irritable, hungry and gives me insomnia.
I can't make it over 100mg because I start to experience gum and teeth issues.
I love the sleep that 40mg of Geodon gives me, but I worry about the heart palps. They kick in about 3 hours after I take it and thats it. But the next day I feel great and have lots of energy.
My doc wanted me to take just 20mg, but oddly, that made me depressed. I don't understand why 40mg would work and 20mg would make me depressed.
Oh well. I guess I can't worry about 20 years down the road. I need to worry about making today happy.
I'll talk to my doc about upping the dose.
I wish it were as easy as popping an SSRI and breezing on down the road!
This is the end of the thread.
