Buspirone... withdrawel...... HELP!

Posted by schleprock on March 2, 2013, at 18:29:04

I've determined that Buspirone was having a negative effect on me (only on about 10mg total divided twice a day.) Since gently decreasing the dose (by just pulling a small chunk of the pill) I've been suffering extreme drowsiness over the last three days. Definitely need to sleep at least 10 hours (it's not really the melancholic depression "can't get out of bed", but just needing that amount of sleep.) Daytime drowsiness has seemed to get a little better, but it was really severe the first day. Certainly no noticeable mood improvement like I had when stopping Lyrica. Was hoping to feel a little less crappy.

So would anyone happen to know what's going on? Should drowsiness be considered a reasonable pharmodynamic response to tapering Buspirone? I'm not sure what to do with this stuff...

Hi schelprock

Just keep lowering the dose slowly over a couple of weeks at least. Stay at one dose until you start feeling a little better.

Withdrawal from a medication can take time for some people. The tiredness should pass in a day or two.

I guess all that I can say is go slowly & you will be able to get off of the buspirone. You are doing it correctly.

Good Luck & keep us posted. Cam

Buspar is a pretty lousy med I don't even know why it's still on the market except they make money from suckers like us. It should all be behind you in 3 to 4 days

And use this as a lesson going forward....

Every single new med you try is going to come with some sort of withdrawals, so approach with caution, and wean off with caution.

Drowsiness has sort of went away. Still feel a bit crappy and can't tell if it's due to withdrawal, depression, or buspar.

When in doubt, blame Buspar, I always say.

Of all the meds I've tried, Buspar is perhaps the least impressive on all counts. They should use it as a placebo since as far as I can tell, all it does is cause dizziness. Make an ideal placebo, since you would know you are getting *something* but it has no real efficacy.
