Trazodone for insomnia

Posted by vbs on February 23, 2013, at 9:29:04

Well, I'm back on trazodone because I haven't been sleeping well. I'm prescribed 50 mg. Anyone else successfully take trazodone for insomnia?

I've never taken it. Don't seem to hear a lot about it anymore? Phillipa

Yeah, it's an old drug. It seems that most people take Ambien or Lunesta for insomnia. I also take diphenhydramine (Benadryl) in addition to trazodone and I'm still having trouble falling asleep & staying asleep. It's very frustrating.

You might not want to take an AP but a small dose of Seroquel will knock you out in about 40 minutes.

I also take Saphris 10 mg & Zyprexa 20 mg, neither of which knock me out. I used to take Seroquel & it did the job of putting me to sleep.

I tried trazodone and didnt find it very helpful.

Ambien is often a good bet, temazepam also

You could try 75mg or 100mg of trazadone and see if you sleep better. I took that dose and it worked great. I liked trazadone better than ambien for sleep. herpills

VBS,

Have you ever been tested for sleep apnea since you seem to be having a problem with finding a sleep medication that works?

Unfortunately, I wasted 15 years on psych meds due to what I feel was undiagnosed apnea. Another post.

Anyway, your post resonated with me because at one point, I was taking Remeron and Doxepin for sleep with only moderate success. I wish to god I had known about having apnea then but you know how that goes.

Good luck.
