Zoloft 25 mg enough?

Posted by PrettyLady on February 14, 2013, at 12:20:48

Hi all!
I'm starting to feel like a human being again, after 9 months of the worst depression and anxiety ever! I'm responding to 25mg of Zoloft, after one week, I am starting to find interest in things again, smiling's a bit easier, I even want to go do something.
I'm supposed to go up to 50mg today and was wondering if I should stay on 25mg and see if I continue to see improvement?
I think I could still feel a lot better, I'm just afraid of pushing it. I'm probably going to have to be on this the rest of my life and if this is the one that works, I want it to work as long as possible.
Thanks!

Personally I'd call the doc and have him decide with you. Could last years and years and years good luck. Phillipa

50mg per day is generaly accepted as the minimum maintainance dose, so I'd go upto 50 and se how you progress.

I absolutely totally cannot understand the philosophy of increasing a dose simply for the sake of increasing the dose because that's what everybody else does. One of the best rules of thumbs I've discovered in my journeys is.....stay at the lowest dose that works, don't rock the boat! In your case, I would say stay on 25mg another 6 to 8 weeks before making any decisions. The best benefits are gong to show up in the 10 to 16 week range, and you aren't there yet.
If anything ever needs to be done, I personally would not increase the dose, but instead would round it out and balance it out with a norepinephrine component. SSRI+TCA is likely to work better than any dose of any ssri.

Latest research is showing that small doses work, even 12.5mg can work for some. I say dont increase unless you absolutely need to and discuss with your pdoc.

I say talk to your doc first, but my view is stay at the 25mg if you are feeling better and see how it goes. You can always go up later. When I tried Zoloft I found 25mg to be very strong, I know some people take over 100mg but we are all different right? herpills

I agree lowest dose possible as the new pdoc rule is this. Why increase if no need to? Phillipa
