Said to see pcp. "You need to be on something."
Lovely, no insurance but it beats a stroke.

your blood pressure does need to be lower. does the clonazepam slow you down, while the adderal speeds you up?

Seroquel slowed everything down last night. Klonopin may help some.
An hour after taking Adderall this morning it only went up 4 points systolic.
Seroquel causes this even without the weight gain etc. At least that's the way I understand it.
Once again, never had this issue pre-antipsychotics.
Joy.

my blood pressure will go up after drinking coffee or exercising. or if in a fit of nerves, but klonopin usually controls the nerves.

Any feedback???The culprit is most likely the Adderall, even though it may not seem like it giving the timing of the meds and your BP results. But you can't always go by the timing. Lots of factors contribute.
It's possible Lamictal and Clonazepam and Seroquel are helping to lower your BP, which is good. But don't go and up their doses!
Stimulants like Adderall often cause high BP...for instance, I'm on 2 antihypertensives, plus I have one for backup should I need it. My BP monitor has been surgically implanted in my right hip. Just kidding of course, but I take my BP so often implantation would be useful LOL. But then I'm on Ritalin, which usually causes more of a problem with BP than amphetamines do.
All that having been said, you are right to be worried about those BP readings. They are definitely too high, and if left untreated could wreak a lot of damage like kidney failure and heart failure. But don't worry! A few days at elevated BPs like yours will not cause any lasting damage. And all worrying will do is increase your BP further.
You should start keeping a record of your BP and pulse readings for the AM and PM every day, in case your doc wants to check them. And it might be smart not to wait for a call back from your doc, which I'm sure you're aware could take forever, but make an appt to see him or her...today if possible...but if that's not possible, ask if your doc has any partners that could see you. HTN is easily treatable, but it always helps a doc to be able to examine you physically and go over your health records before they make a choice of which antihypertensive(s) to use. Be sure to bring in with you the readings you've shared with us.
Good luck Phil. And pat yourself on the back for catching this before any real damage could set in. In the meantime, you might consider skipping the coffee :( And also rest as much as possible and try to avoid stress.

Phil there are inexpensive antihypertensive meds available. Do you want to get off one at least of antipsychotics as said no problem til the weight gain on them. Is it possible? Phillipa

I have an appt with my docs PA Monday at 9:30. No insurance of course. My blood pressure was going up pre-stims. Seroquel can take your bp north or south, not counting being 50 pounds heavier. I'm worn out, this is the last thing I need.

I think it's time to get off Seroquel. I'd rather be bummed out than a corpse. Not in a very good mood right now.

Phil, I tapered off of remeron due to weight gain, and high cholestrol, bad sugar cravings, thought I was headed twd diabetes.Got rid of zoloft too. I was also very concerned that my mental health would go south. Didnt happen! I found that I could do great on klonopin only.
Posted by ChicagoKat on February 1, 2013, at 18:28:59
My bad. I should have looked at the other posts; seems you've already talked to you pcp. Did they put you on something?
One good thing, a lot of the antihypertensives still in use today are dirt cheap. Be sure they know you have no insurance so you need a cheaapo med.

I would love to think that would work for me but chances are slim to none. I actually like my 5 pill combo, it just doesn't like me.

Seems to cause depression. I'll talk to doc about it. They say beta blockers are sometimes combined with other meds(why more?!!) to control blood pressure,
diuretics are first choice but I can't use with lithium.
I'm so fkn sick of drugs. I'm just burnt to a crisp.

hang in there phil.....there's something better....tenex or intuniv, less sedating than clonodine....less dry mouth. It's used as a stimulant add on for ADD.
it will help defintly with blood pressure....actually ask him about that intuniv...forget clonodine...to sedating and depressing....
hope the visit goes good...

Ask your doc for a script for Lisinopril 10mg/Hydrochlorothiazide 12.5mg, take one each morning, it should bring your BP down to normal.
25% of adults have hypertension, so dont nessecerily asssume this is med related

P, I would love to taper off my benzo too. I know I can do it, I just keep finding excuses to stay. Ive thought about going to see a therapist to help me with this! Its an emotional attachment, unlike with any other med. You know, I can get so ready during the day, to start The Taper...night rolls around...well,then nothing's gonna stop that whole pill from sliding down my throat.

Ah, my mothers wisdom some 30 years ago when I was starting meds.
Never had high blood pressure then Zyprexa and Seroquel = 50 pounds with Seroquel listing HBP as a side effect = taking two more meds to control something I never should have had in the first place. I hope I have a heart attack on the way to the doctor. As long as it's the big one. It's legit at least.
Burnt out.
(I get in these Phil moods, I always have, it will pass) This black architecture of my mind used to freak people out. It's what I turn to to cope. I'm still here.

Maybe I should eat and take my meds before I decide to let Dr Gloom out of his box.
Jono, I'll write down your suggestion and run it by my doc.
Now for weirdness, blood pressure today:9:45am 135/91 pulse 64 (after 2 cups of coffee)
10:25am 126/85 pulse 72I wish I had a week to track it because I don't know what's going on.
Thanks babblers for putting up with me. I think that 50% of my posts I wish I could do over. I go 8 years back in the archives and am horrified by so many of my posts. I should stick to the facts but I usually have no clue as to what they are.

> I wish I had a week to track it because I don't know what's going on.How reliable is the meter you are using to test it? I've never found I get consistent readings from either the drug store machines or the highly rated home machine I bought. For that matter I get bad readings at some doctors offices unless they have and bother to use the right size cuff.
As to Lisinopril/Hydrochlorothiazide you can get either the combo pill or either/both alone as $4. generics. Personally I don't like combo pills but there have been times when saving $4. a month ($10 for 3 months) would have been more important.

Not sure Jane. It's an Omron. A friend who was a deputy sheriff and EMT gave it to me. He's so tight he squeaks when he walks so he may have paid $7 at the flea market for it.
I'll look around and see if I can find any info on the model. It's consistent today. Just took it again...134/77.

My husband had high BP when he saw a doctor for a physical last year. They told him to take his BP once a day, same time, for a month. Taking it every hour will just make you crazy. BP goes all over the place. Exercise, moving around raises BP. Take it once when you get up in the morning.
