Scott, I was just thinking that it sucks to know what depression and anxiety feel like...to know that its possible to lose your mind, to not sleep for weeks,to want to die. I hate that I know these things. I liked it before when I thought I was invincible. Now, I do have a few quirks about me that are based in that fear of knowing...

I do realize that its probably different for me because I have episodes and not lifelong depression.

Is it true for that some it is a one time thing? I honestly don't know. Have had relatives take a short couse of an ad and stop. And never need on again? Husband included. Paxil for a few months and off and fine. Phillipa

it would be nice if most had a one time episode, but i think thats the exception. ive had 3,and the last was the worst by far. It could be more difficult actually for people that suffer episodic depression because of the fear of a repeat. Youre going along happy as a lark, and then it's surprising how you can fall so quickly into that "dark night of the soul".

> - ScottThanks for saying it Scott. I needed to hear justification that it does really suck. My family are all starting to abandon me now b/c they just can't take it anymore, and them giving up on me hurts almost worse than the depression does. How could someone who loves you abandon you when you are in such a dark place?

It does indeed Scott
I guess I'm fortunate, in that my depression is in full remision due to drug therapy, i just still suffer anxiety/panic...... but when you're having an especialy bad day, that isnt much comfort!

Gadchick I didn't know you had three. Out of the blue it just happened? Now that is really scary. Did you use the same ad each time or different one? P

Hey P, no mine dont happen out of the blue, they are always in response to a major(in my view) life change. So, in a way, I guess Im lucky they dont come out of the blue. The only one I took ads for was the 3rd one. Id never taken any psych meds before age 44. If I had taken klonopin, the last one would never have progressed. My extreme anxiety led to all the problems! Thanks for asking:)

Thanks Scott!
I am scared of Parnate because Nardil gave me this terrible dizzy nauseous feeling and I had to stop. Also afraid I might inadvertently eat some cheese or something...

Well said.
Especially when it has been chronic for a few decades.

Gadchik you are homefree I feel as you found your magic bullet. So strange that klonopin depressed me. Might be my brain has changed and now it would help? P

In my experience, dizziness, especially orthostatic hypotension, is a persistent problem with Nardil. By contrast, the hypotension produced by Parnate has been a problem early in treatment, but then dissipates once a steady dosage is reached. Start low and slow.
> Also afraid I might inadvertently eat some cheese or something...
Afraid is good. It will motivate you to learn more about the diet and be careful to adhere to it. However, I think most of us have found the older diet restrictions to be too broad. Some processed cheeses are okay.

If the hypotension is problematic, Florinef 0.1-0.2mg in the morning can be very helpfull - it causes the body to retain salt and fluid and thus helps prevent the hypotensive episodes. it was designed for addidons disease, but has found a special role in MAOI therapy
