My experience with Lamictal

Posted by Laney on December 6, 2012, at 16:55:05

I've been on 100mg. for about 6 weeks. I tired most of the time. I need 9-10 hrs. of sleep per night and get a flat effect mood wise. I'm cutting back right now.

I'm always yawning, etc. Anybody experience this?

It has definitely not improved my mood!

Thanks for your help!

Laney

Laney only got to 50mg of lamictal once. Wasn't tired. Is it a side effect of the lamictal. What dose will you lower to? Or are you discontinuing it altogether? Phillipa

Hi, on Lamictal I get extremely tired about an hour or so after I eat food. I'm not sure why that is. There are occasions when I randomly get very sleepy for no reason and feel tired when I wake up unless I get around 9 hours of sleep.

I'm sleeping 9-11 and still wake up groggy. I hate it!! I also have an overall flat, blah feeling from it.

I am going to be seeing a new Psychiatrist about an hour and a half drive from me.

I got his name off of PB. Someone way back had used him.

Best wishes to you all,

Laney

If you had continued to take nortriptyline, it is likely that the soporific effect would have disappeared within 3 days. This seems to be the rule. Perhaps you would have been an exception to that rule, but you cannot know this for certain without trying the drug again and to continue taking it beyond a single dose.

Have you tried doxepin (Sinequan)? It can act as a potent antidepressant and anxiolytic at the same time. It will probably produce the typical anticholinergic side effects, but these often mitigate with continued treatment.

Have you taken any tricyclic antidepressant for longer than 4 weeks?

Never I watched patients gain weight week after week when volunteered in psych ward before RN school.Bad for joints and blood sugars if cause weight. Family history is a big factor for me. Phillipa
