I've heard it carries less cognitive side-effects (potent sigma agonism) and sleep disturbances than other SSRIs .. ?
I experience a lot of visceral anxiety (hypervigilance, sensitivity to noise etc.) and was wondering if it might also be more helpful (i.e. calming) for those kinda symptoms? The last non-activating SSRI I tried was Lexapro at 20mg and it didn't do anything for anxiety other than make me sleep 12 hours.

Long andwer yes with an if, short answer no with a but.... some people do find it to be different to the mainstream SSRI's, others find it pretty much the same.
Given your situation, I'd definatly suggest trying it, at a dose of atleast 100mg/day, and even pushing it to 200mg/day.
Clomipramine might be worth considering (as well as being a seretonin reuptake inhibitor, it blocks various seretonin receptor subtypes and helps releive anxiety in multiple ways)

I don't seem to respond well to too much NE.
I'll think about revisiting Luvox. I actually tried it for 8 weeks about 5 years ago and stopped because it was negatively affecting my concentration (this was prior to comorbid ADD dx.). I remember it being quite benign.

After 11 years I still take low doses of generic luvox and do not get side effects. I do take a low dose benzo with it. I have ocd they say but add generalized anxiety, panic, and the ruminations. So if it's helping not sure but once went off and didn't sleep for 2 weeks. As for add I don't know. Were you diagnosed as a child or adult with the add? Phillipa

Given that ggg, I'd try starting Luvox at 25mg per day for 4 days 9half a 50mg pill) then 50mg a day, then increase to 100mg a day after a couple of weeks. Given your situation, I'd be inclined to take some Valium or another benzo with it atleast initialy. If needed you can eventualy push Luvox to 200mg per day, if you have OCD features its more likely you will need a higher dose.
