So,
(Hi btw)
I found out recently that my psychiatrist is on leave until further notice, which sucks - he was awesome - and I can't get an appointment until December 1. Problem: My Dexedrine is overdue for refill.
So, I present to urgent care psych in another county in the area I live in. This bitch shrink insults my MD for having me on Dex and Nardil at the same time (even though I invited her to review some literature), and I told her that she had no idea how resistant I'd been (depression) or how bad my ADD is.
She also said that I shouldn't be on Xanax either; and I said I'd been on the same dose for years and so has my Mom - and she said, without knowing Mom, that *she* shouldn't either. I said, oh, so you're a benzophobe too? What would you have us take? .. Surprise! An antipsychotic! I swear, these types are all the same..
She went on to suggest that perhaps there was something else wrong as a reason for my resistant depression and I said, oh, so, let me guess - you think I have Axis II pathology and she said most likely yes. This was after a 20 minute interview.
F*ck that bitch.
I am so glad my new doc will continue me on my meds; and I found out all I need to do is go to the psych urgent care clinic in my own county tomorrow and they will refill my Dex until appointment time. :-)
Doing exceptionally well on:
Nardil 45mg b.i.d.
Dexedrine Spansules 15mg @ 8am and 12-1pm
Xanax 1mg 1-2 tbs. prn
Ambien CR 12.5mg prn
... and need a testosterone lab before that's resumed.Hope all are well. =)

Psychiatry is not really science. At best, its a guessing game, trying to get people to function better and not kill themselves. At worst, its an exercise in dogma, control, power, force, fraud, and coercion. A lot of the younger shrinks, for some reason, seem to be on the more dogmatic, oppressive end of things.

That sort of behavior *really* makes me angry. Both her reaction to the medication you are on as well as that cop out 'personality disorder' diagnosis. With psychiatrists, having a personality itself is seen as a disorder.
I cant stand arrogant, know-it-all doctors who are actually really uninformed and clueless. They just screw up the lives of patients by not taking a patients experience into consideration. Sometimes they do these things to reestablish the power balance. Especially with patients who are knowledgable. Either way, doctors like that should be dropped like a hot bricks!!!

Hi zonked...it sounds like that doc was retarded. completely, utterly stupid. the training docs go through is unbelievably intense and massive (I dropped out of med school b/c I was going through hell with an abusive husband), so it amazes me that there are actually some loony docs out there who actually made it through the training.
Glad you found a place where you could get some good professional help. And glad your combo works for you, too :)
