hey....well, went there, no change on medications the same im on right now, exept increase on lamictal to 300mg. I asked abut Lithium and she said its nasty on the kidneys...and causes alot of problems, but you know people here on babble take Parnate and lithium and alot things my doctor thinks is outdated or dangerous...i've asked her about parnate and she said too many side effects, and outdated. I have to say they do refer to the ads in the drug companies, newer medications. I ask also about TCA antidepressants, she told me the same thing...
The only thing she told me too add was something called Deplin, i've already take it.
i should be playing chess....its difficult.

oh rj, you are so right on about playing chess, that is so what it feels like all of the time.
i don't know much about your history, but i did note that you are on prozac. maoi's like parnate or nardil can be amazing, but you would have wash off your prozac for *5 weeks* before you could try one. just fyi, if you didn't already know this. but, it can be worth it, though it would be very difficult. your pdoc should realize though, that just b/c a med is 'outdated' it can't work great. like i said, maoi's can be simply amazing...the only reason they aren't used more is b/c of all the issues with interactions and washouts. but i wish you luck in your game of chess...

yea...i know it...MAO's are vary good, i've read on many posts here, their success stories. And then I have do deal with poozy prozac:( well if its at least something, that's fine. its kinda like you go and buy new car at the dealership...they don't sell old stuff...you have to go to special places to get old cars....same with docs. My doc uses new passed 1980's, anything before that is not used. The meds i've asked her about she always tells me theirs risk with them and thats why their avoided.
SO...yea she won't move her kings or queens...and that's difficult...stradegy will take some time...:)
thanks

yea...i have taken lyrica...its similar to nuerontin...its just a bit diffrent, but its pretty much the same in the class of offlabel anxiety, pain use. It's stronger than Nuerontin, i see it advertised all over any tv channel im watching, its heavly marketed right now. Nuerontin lost its patent, i think it was released 1984...lost it patent in the 1990's. Lyrica is another generation of it.
but I tried it in early 2011 and then stopped it and went to clonodine. I was on 75mg X 3 daily.
It has a unique way of making anxiety going away...it lifts the mood. You should check it out...:)

hey phillipa....yea both of them are market on tv and used for pain...cymbalta is with pain relieving properties. Some old TCAs too do that...but their obviously not advertised since the 1960/70s?
yea...lyrica actually it does lift the mood but its not given for depression. It works kinda wierd but it did lift my mood, nothing like a stimulant or sedative would. Unique kinda...

no.....the medications im on are good in themselves for what their doing. I have asked about lithium because i've read of its gold standard treatment for mood disorders.
Of course I would say that Parnate would be good for depression, I mean who would choose prozac over parnate? in the effectiveness of it....parante is much better from reviews i've read....lithium is calming, but so is lamictal. Their are alot of people here who ask these similar questions and not get this feedback from others.

i tried deplin in 2007 I think at what 7.5mg? something....it didnt really show much diffrence....and really in my opinion the doctor i see is using drug company advertisements to drugs and maybe a getting some sort of benefit from it. The medications that havent lost their patent and are fairly new.
yea....it worked, kinda ok...i didnt have any rerember wonders of it.

Hi rj-
Deplin is basically a super vitamin, a "medical food." It's supposed to help replace folic acid in people who are deficient in it (it's believed a folate deficiency causes depression). I tried it too and it did nothing.
Sounds like you might benefit from a new pdoc. From your description, she sounds very rigid and myopic. I think you mentioned she's an addiction specialist, too, correct? Perhaps you can find a new pdoc (an addiction specialist if still necessary) who is open to exploring more options with you. A lot of those "old" meds are still pretty good.
Good luck...

I agree with her on litium. It makes you shaky and I here once you are on it you can't get off it. Deplin is an expensive joke. Tried it too and did nothing. You would have better luck taking a B-100, which I'm still taking. Its good to replace the B vits that you lose when drinking.
Have you tired perphenazine? Makes a good add on to olanzapine. Do you take generic zyprexa?
