many people say that Nardil is the best drug for treatment social phobia and anxiety, so I wonder, if anyone here has ever tried both medications( Nardil and Paxil) and he/she can compare effects ? I know that everyone reacts differently to drugs, but I'm curious about your experiences.
According to your own experience, Is Nardil more effective in treatment GAD, social phobia than Paxil ?
I also wonder to know, if anyone has had any success with paroxetine for treatment GAD, social phobia, OCD and depression (as in monotherapy or in combination with other meds ) ?
Thank you.

My first ad was l0mg of paxil. Combined with a benzo xanax at the time it worked fine for me. I do know my Sister also took it but at a higher dose also with benzo. But she gained weight and switched to zoloft and lost weight. As for Nardil no haven't taken this. Are you thinking of switching from nardil to paxil? Phillipa

I''ve never tried nardil. I was on paxil for a year. Paxil in literature is good for GAD/social phobia, and in my experience that was true. Mileage varies so there is no way to predict. But why it was true matters. I think it does what it does by the strong numbing effect it has, the emotional blunting common to ssris. Paxil is especially good at that. it took about 8 weeks for that to really take hold, and prior to that all my symptoms were actually worse for a while.
I do not like the common strategy of prescribing ssris as montherapy. While most would view it as optional, I view it as mandatory, that an ssri must be accompanied in some ratio with a norepinephrine med. imo

thanks for response,
not now, a few days ago I started treatment with Nardil again, but this time, I decided to try to add Lyrica (for better results), so I hope I will achieve some profit from this combo, because the last time, I did not get much from Nardil itself.

I have been on Nardil 45 mg and up to 30 mg of Paxil
Paxil did not help with depression or anxiety after 8 weeks. The side effects were loss of sexual functioning/being attracted to girls and yawning.
Nardil 45 mg got rid of 60% of my major depression, and 70% of my anxiety. Only long term side effect was constipation. Was on it for 70 days.

Was on Paxil for 2 or 3 years. Have been on Nardil for 9. Nardil blows Paxil out of the water for SP and anxiety in general, and for depression. It is prob somewhat worse for OCD, but Paxil didn't help me much with that anyway.
I was up to 50mg Paxil, and a high of 60mg Nardil, typically 45, and sometimes less.Paxil is great for leveling out your mood (minimizing the pain and severity of depression I can feel), but it also just makes me numb and anhedonic. Nardil has some of that effect, as it is very serotonergic, but not nearly as much.
Nardil is also far better for anxiety, esp soc anxiety, and also makes you much more pro-social than Paxil does.
It is far better than Paxil all around, except for certain things like some potentially worse side effects, and the inconvenience of multiple-daily dosing and of certain dietary and esp drug restrictions. But in my opinion, it is well worth it.

Paxil experienced taking for 5 yrs, nardil, before that, Pax worked for depression that was re: medical conditions and chronic pain, but not in way that helps with existential issues. Nardil more effective but more complicated regimen, allows for more contemplative introspection and personal change so as to develop new coping stategies with life problems. If you get the chance read Talking Back to Prozac and ,Listening to Prozac. Just substitute Pax or Nardil for prozac and then decide with the help of a good clinician.
