When cymbalta was newly released took 60mg of it and used to lift weights, walk 5 miles daily & ride 20miles on bike daily. I went off it after 3 months was also on benzos. But never had back pain til went off it. I know I'm older now but I'm pretty sure had osteo arthristis then. Think it really helped it as see it's now approved for this instead of pain meds? Thanks Phillipa

Cymbalta is FDA approved to treat musculoskeletal pain and (if my memory serves me correctly) also the pain associated with diabetic neuropathy. I don't think it's Rx'd to treat arthritis pain, but it could have off-label uses of which I'm not aware. Would a drug like Celebrex or another NSAID be used in your particular case?

I found that Cymbalta was incredibly effective for pain. It took care of all my back pain plus neuropathy. Unfortunately I was unable to tolerate it. If I could take it, I would.

My opinion is that cymbalta has decent results in the pain population but not that great in the depression population.

You seem to have the ability to trial meds and discontinue them with little difficulty as far as I can tell. It could be worth a shot. You could get your MD to script a low dose. Are you still on lexapro? Chronic pain impacts mood and creates anxiety too :(

Good luck with your decision making process. Keep the board updated, okay?
