Trileptal and...

Posted by Sheilac on September 21, 2012, at 18:39:44

I'm back on 300mg of Trileptal and I feel so much better. 100mg of Lamictal was making me hypomanic and breaking out in canker sores and easily bruising.

I dropped down to 75mg of Lamictal and will go down to 50mg. I really like the antidepressant effect I receive from Lamictal I just want to keep the side effects away.

I will see how the next couple of weeks go. I'm just so amazed at how much better I feel back on Trileptal and shocked at how hypomanic I was.

If it ends up I can't use Lamictal as my antidepressant, what is a good low dose med to add for depression. Lithium wasn't helping for depression.

Wellbutrin is out if the question.

Is low dose Geodon a consideration? Abilify made me fat.

Let's hope I can keep taking Lamictal.

Glad the trileptal is working well. As for a med for depression do you need one? Phillipa

I will need a med for depression if I have to end up stopping the Lamictal. Trileptal is great as an antimanic for me but does nothing for my depression.

Right now I am in the process of reducing Lamictal in hopes that the itchy gums and canker sores go away.

Right now I've just taken some antihistamines to help.

Maybe I'll be able to tolerate 50mg. Lamictal is by far the best antidepressant I've ever taken.

If you can take SSRI's I'd go with this. Don't like the sound of sores in mouth. Phillipa

Symbyax has helped me a lot, as far as I can tell. It's expensive but might be worth giving it a shot if youve tried all those other things.

Is your diagnosis bipolar? Symbyax is approved specifically for bipolar depression.

Can you describe what your sores look like? Where are they located? How big are they? What color are they? You could go to a dermatologist to have your mouth sores evaluated for SJS (Stevens-Johnson Syndrome). Your psychiatrist might not have enough experience with examining SJS to properly diagnose it. You wouldn't want to discontinue Lamictal for the wrong reasons. Of course, you wouldn't want to risk a more global SJS reaction. It is entirely possible that you will be okay at 50 mg of Lamictal. If you need to increase the dosage, I would suggest that you go to 75 mg rather than 100 mg.

Geoodn can be very activating at low doses. Its better to take it a high dose to reach equilibrium.
