I have schizoaffective disorder. I notice that after a few days of drinking a lot of beer I start hearing voices. Am I right in thinking that alcohol is causing psychotic episodes? Has anyone else experienced this problem? I know that alcohol can worsen depression; but psychosis?

This is a possibility. Alcohol can mess with dopamine and gaba transmission, both of which are implicated in schizophrenia.

Yeah I think if I quit dinking I'll have fewer psychotic episodes. I know that alcohol can augment dopamine. I pray that I can abstain from using. I'm sick of hearing voices.
