My pdoc has agreed to try augmenting Seroquel with my cocktail as it has been great for my sister with depression. I was on 5mg of zyprexa a while ago and went off it as I felt dull on it. My pdoc says he sees more weight gain with zyprexa but who knows. My question to any experts what would be the equivalent dose of Seroquel to 5mg zyprexa? I know that is a difficult question to answer but any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

5 mg of Zyprexa is eequivaleent to 300 mg of Seroquel.

How did you come to this ratio?
You could be right.
I was kinda likening Zyprexa 30 mg to approximate Seroquel 800 mg. I compared the maximum dosages that I often see used. That would place 5 mg Zyprexa = 150 mg Seroquel. I don't know that this is a valid way to compare the potencies of these two drugs. However, my impressions from the clinical applications I see with people I know lead me to believe these numbers are closer to what people actually use.
With your figures, Zyprexa 20 mg = Seroquel 1200 mg.
With my figures, Zyprexa 20 mg = Seroquel 600 mg.

Eric or Scott do you know if weight gain is more of a problem with seroquel or zyprexa? This is my last question I promise.

Ask as many questions as you like.
I found Seroquel weight neutral, however Zyprexa helped me gain nearly 20 lbs.

I wasn't on either drug for more than a week or two. However, with Zyprexa, every other thought I had throughout the day revolved around food. I have seen more people gain weight with Zyprexa than with Seroquel, and the amount of weight gained seems to be substantially larger with Zyprexa. There is some speculation that the weight gain with Zyprexa is dose dependent. I am unsure about this. As an aside, Clozaril is worse than Zyprexa. If it were without the metabolic side effects, Zyprexa would be a great drug. Geodon is the only AAP that does not express a tendency to produce weight gain. Latuda is a sister drug to Geodon, and might be equally free of producing weight gain as a side effect. Time will tell. Initially, Abilify was touted as being weight-neutral. No such luck. This drug is now recognized as being capable of producing substantial weight gain. With Abilify, I found that the onset of weight gain was delayed (latent) and insidious. Also, there doesn't seem to be a plateau.

Scott that isn't good for you as I know you wanted to lose weight. So geodon wouldn't work for you? Phillipa
