Psychiatrists run their business like a magazine s

Posted by poser938 on July 1, 2012, at 12:42:40

some people only stay subscribed for a few months only to realize it sucks.. some are subscribed for years hoping that something interesting and good will come out of it. and the psychiatrists, they make sure you pay them each month by not doing a damn thing for you in between visits, when you realize yo are on too low of a dose.. or even worse, you realize this current med they put you on is screwing you over BIG TIME. and then you call leave a message with the phone answerer that you are still suffering, and they send the caring psychiatrist a message about it and the only answer you get aback about anything is that you are going to have to come back for another appointment 3 weeks from now because it is not worth the psychiatrists time to help someone with anything unless they are getting paid for it. after all, it is their business model to keep you coming back at all costs.

A shame old psychiatry seems to have gone by the wayside. Phillipa

And that in a nutshell is what's wrong with the entire American healthcare model. It's a business, first and foremost.

man, i am going to set a personal record for posting today...

i think it depends poser.

i have seen so many psychs over the past 2 years. i'm guessing close to 10. developed a positive relationship with 2.

a few of those docs were absolutely terrible. a couple ok, and 2 were outstanding and very caring and 'old school.' they still did psychotherapy as well as prescribe and returned calls immediately. one closed her office and the other was just too expensive unfortunately. oh yeah, even the doc that gave me ect was very caring and kind. ironic.

i read somewhere that the average psych patient goes thru 6 pdocs until finding one that fits the bill.

not sure your history poser or financial situation, and i am very sorry you are frustrated and not feeling well.

is it possible for you to search for a new pdoc?

john

i think this is the last psychiatrist i will be trying. i had seen her in a crisis stabilization unit for the 1st time last august. she seemed to have alot of empathy at the time. it was like she really tried to understand the situation you are in. and she is the 1st doc to not call me crazy for telling them that most meds i take have a lasting effect on me after stopping it.

she even gave me her personal email address at the last appointment so that i could email her if the med she prescribed was working. we decided if it was going to work, then i would know in 3 days. so after i realizedd it wasnt working i emailed her twice before getting a response. and even then she basically just said "okay"... and since then i have emailed her about 5 times with no response back.
i try t make it clear how desperate i am to get to feeling better ASAP, hoping she would understand, but...
it turns out her caring attitude is only used to accentuate her business model.

i just wanted so much to make this summer feel like it was worth something... but i am finding no inspiration in the sunlight anymore.

I think the average psych patient goes thru 6 pdocs until finding one that tells him what he wants to hear.

What can a psychiatrist tell me that I want to hear? I have a disorder that requires treatment. I'm not looking for bushels of Valium. Wait, that's not a bad idea.

And this: some people only stay subscribed for a few months only to realize it sucks.. some are subscribed for years hoping that something interesting and good will come out of it.

>>You've perfectly described psychotherapist's and everyone loves them.

possibly ron. ironically, i find nothing wrong with what you propose.

the power of suggestion, even if it is subconsciously your own, can be pretty powerful.
