I've been taking 10-15mg zyprexa for the last while. In the last couple months and even more so now. I have no appatite. how can this be? I was taking 10mg for 14 years and gaining all the time or atleast a good appatite. But now for the last few months I have to force myself to eat. Could it be the generic zyprexa I started in Nov? Or this is my schitzo talking but could the doc be telling the pharmacy to send placibo's or a greatly reduced dose. I don't know how to explain it. whats going on?

It may be that:
- your body is reacting differently to the generic Zyprexa
- your body has finally got used to this particular side effect so you are no longer experiencing it (if that's even possible)
- or perhaps an illness is the cause of your sudden loss of appetite. Such an illness may be unrelated to your mental health or medication.I would have a check up with both your general practitioner and your prescribing doctor. Between them, I'm sure they will be able to find the reason for your lack of appetite.
In the meantime, I need to take my own advice! I am experiencing a GI issue which might be a side effect of Nortriptyline or Lamictal, but which I haven't experienced over the entire year that I have taken these meds and there have been no recent dose increases. Or my GI problem could have an entirely different cause. I mean, I know it's possible for side effects to abate over time (usually over the initial weeks/months of a new dose) but to have them suddenly appear?
Anyway, I shouldn't be hijacking your thread! Talk to your doctors. :-)

Zyprexa that is strange. Are you still functioning well? No other meds or other? I'd also see your doc not that I take my own advise as woke with taccycardia this am no changes in meds and sweating. Seems lately a lot of people I know in real life are having strange illnesses. Let me Know. Phillipa

i too think it may be either the generic or getting used to it.
that is EXACTLY what i was experiencing my last two weeks on it. it was weird. but my mood was so low (unnervingly) that i assumed it was that...

I think you are right, that there is a difference. I've been taking 10mg of the brand for the last 4 days. My appatite is back and I'm thinking a little clearer. I'm doing this for the week.

Well I still have an appatite and I have not taken any 15mg days, its been about a week on 10mg zyprexa. I still ordered a new batch of 10mg olanzapine's, just because they are cheep, but next year I may just take the brand. or off and on brand / generic, just for the weight loss. The only thing is I feel more stable on the brand, mentaly.
B2chica, I would be interested to see if you do much better on the brand?

i'll wait a while. i'm working on trying to loose my 27lbs i gained.
but it was disconcerning that it seemed to not be working like before.
i seem to be sensitive to generics so my guess is that i would do better on original, Especially since its Always been my 'go-to' drug and has worked since 2003! with no problem.if i have to go back on it. i'll make sure to request name brand and post how i respond.

Well my appatite came back in full force on brand. Now I've been back on generic and still have an appatite, just not as bad as on brand. The pharmacy just sent me the the new batch of generic and its a different generic. Will see how that goes on monday.

This new genaric seem to have more of an appatite than the other generic. Maybe just because its fresher. But I will say one thing all the generics and brand that I have tried seem to be equaly effective.
This is the end of the thread.
