Does anyone take (or know about taking) Lexapro w/ a low dose of Protriptyline?
I asked my doc for a low dose of Protriptyline to go w/ my 20 mg of Lex as I thought it would help give me a boost (instead of stims) and work on my chronic headaches.
Feedback?

Hi Bryn .. When I took lexapro, I found desipramine to be extremely effective. Lexapro stoned me as bad as an antipsychotic. By itself, It was a nightmare.
Desipramine was actually a better AD than lexapro... very stimulating, and pretty clean, also. I loved it. It is also good for pain.
So if the vivactil doesn't work out, this may be a good fall back. Good luck!

Also, to be clear, I just got off a month on stims, which I can't take as I have a problem with addiction and they end up making me irritable and more depressed.
I've tried Wellbutrin in the past, but it also eventually made me angry/irritable. I took Provigil a long time ago, and don't remember it having any negative effects, but I don't have insurance at the moment.
Thanks...

If the second med mentioned is vivactal. I knew a lady a long time ago who went on it for migraines and ended up returning to work. But I'd thought it was discontinued years ago? Phillipa

This combo actually makes a lot of sense to me. You've got almost pure serotonin on one med, almost pure NE with the other, and you can customize the ratios of each. That in my opinion is great.
I have tried protrpt before and wow it was really potent on NE. I mean, like wow. It was way too strong for me. That was before I was well schooled on making smaller custom doses. For the NE component of a cocktail I found nortriptyline or desipramine to be much friendlier.
Any TCA in combo with lexapro sounds like a smart strategy to me.

Thanks everyone for the feedback. I've been super depressed lately and haven't given the Pro a fair shake. I started it today, so we'll see. I think I'll try Desipramine if I can't handle the Protriptyline...
