Any new/promising meds. for SAD and depression???

Posted by metamorphosis on March 3, 2012, at 7:04:45

I have both social and generalized anxiety disorder along with co-morbid depression. I have not kept up on current meds. being tested for release and new meds. that have recently been available for the public. Are there any new, promising meds that have been approved or on the way?

This is a pretty good list:

I am waiting for caripazine. It is similar to Abilify. I am hoping that caripazine has fewer metabolic side effects. It should make a good augmenting agent in that it helps to stabilize dopamine synapses.

Thank you for the link to that great website!!! I will take a good look at it later. I know all the meds still in trial are all #'s and letters. I have heard that agomelatine was recalled. Is caripazine already in use? and are there any other meds. that have just come out?
Also, I have heard so many horror stories of abilify. I don't think I will ever try it.
Thanks again, Scott

Are you aware of Viibryd (vilazodone)?

No, I have not. Is it an SSRI? And does it have different, lets say, characteristics of the other SSRI's?

Viibryd combines the actions of a SSRI with a partial agonism of serotonin 5-HT1a receptors. No other antidepressant does this. To me, Viibryd felt a lot cleaner than the other SSRIs I have tried.

I just read some info. on it. Supposedly no sexual side eetcts or weight gain. How about 5HT2A, 2C, 5HT3 and 4.?? perhaps no effect on these. As a partial agonist of 5HT1A, it acts in the same way a buspar.i would think. I wish they would come out with some triple NT releasers or something along those lines, that aren't in the amp category.

Do you think those would be good for anxiety or a med that's a 5HT reuptake inhibitor that also works as a DA releaser without any NE action.

Really Agomelatonin was recalled? What was the reason? Phillipa

I wonder if there might be other things to do while waiting for more meds? Strategies for example aimed at anti-inflammation, pro-immune, pro-adrenal, antimicrobial, antitoxin. Pretty easy to do with just a few well chosen supplements, and in my opinion the actual underlying monster behind our depression is in one or more of those categories. So improving any and all of those, even if not on target, will enable a stronger healthier body globally...which includes everything in the nervous system.... and the end result can't help but be to feel better. Sometimes cured. So anyway, just thought I would mention it.

Abilify?

Wasn't clear on who said this "Also, I have heard so many horror stories of abilify."

What's up with abilify? I was actually thinking about asking pdoc about it?

Thanks!

Laney

Really? Isn't it a weight gainer? Phillipa

I loved, loved, loved Abilify. It worked for my depression in a way that others did not (including desipramine and Paxil, for what it's worth.)

I recently had to stop it because I want to get pregnant. I ended up doing TMS, which was extremely effective for me.

And to address Phillipa's comment, Abilify is said to be weight neutral. Although I know of a few exceptions, it is not typically an issue with Abilify.

Luck,
EE

I personally don't trust any anti-psychotics to be weight neutral. :S

Except Molindone, but from what I've read here it's pretty much useless, and that's if you can even get your hands on it.

I think Laney might have lucked out!

It worked. :). On other meds and combos, I had about 50-60% remission. On Abilify it was 90%
