Started LDN!!!

Posted by morgan miller on January 19, 2012, at 1:58:39

Yep, got my new psychiatrist to prescribe this stuff and I have very high hopes and expectations-why wouldn't I??? I've already experienced some positive effects, and some side effects, the next few weeks should be very telling with this drug.

Has everyone here read about LDN? If not, please please do so. I completely agree with BB when he says everyone who is suffering from chronic mental illness should try LDN.

Why am I taking it? Suspected fibromyalgia...

Hey, FB, you out there? I think you should try this one.

If anyone has any questions I will be happy to answer if I can. I will be here regularly to keep everyone posted!

Hey Morgan, fb joined the circus, but I can forward notes.

What dosage do you take? Right at bedtime? (When is your bedtime?)

How long you been doing this?

And the sleep question. I have heard it can be disruptive in the early hours....

Good luck!!!!!

Yeah, I agree, LDN is a no brainer and everyone should have it early in their trials rather than later. IMO. Rhodiola rosea is another one in that category, IMO. LDN was not friendly to me, but from what I gather looking through other forums my experience is not common. Most people do get some kind of noteworthy benefit from it.

What are the positive effects that you are experiencing?

Good luck. May your opioid circuits work to quell your illness.

Sorry. I forgot to ask.

How much naltrexone are you taking, and how are you dividing up the 50 mg tablet?

Thanks.

I have many symptoms of CFS/FM and I wonder if this would help.
How did you talk to your doc about it? It seems pretty harmless but even so many docs refuse to experiment even with TRD patients with several failed med trials.

I'm taking it during the day to avoid any sleep disturbances. Really, I'm not going to know for sure until a week from now I don't think, This is only my second day on it. Yesterday I took it around 7pm, and around 12 I was feeling more stimulated in a bit of an agitated way than I would want to feel ever, but especially before bed. I also experienced some very mild nausea, that seemed to be pretty easy to treat. So far, I have not experienced much discomfort at all. There is a certain "buzz" I'm experiencing that could be described as both positive and negative. I feel a little more clear headed and calm, along with feeling more energized. I suspect I'm benefitting from the endorphin boost that comes with LDN. I'm not sure if it makes sense that I would be experienced noticeable relief from inflammation, but that is what it feels like.

BB..What dose where you on? Did you try starting at a very low dose, say .5 mg and just sticking with 1 mg?

How long were you on it?

My head feels clearer, my muscles and tendons are not as stiff, and I have more of a calm energy. I also feel a mildly uncomfortably and very very slight agitation, a sort of "buzz", as I mentioned in my previous post. Overall, the experience is possible. I hope to eventually just get back to functioning and feeling more "normal", without feeling medicated in anyway. LDN should work on a specific type of endorphin that helps our immune system regulate itslelf better, leading to a better state of homeostasis that will hopefully get our bodies and brains back to functioning more normally. LDN has been shown to reduce excessive microglia activity and inflammation, which may be one reason why so many people eventually report significant improvement in cognitive function several months after starting treatment.

I'm anxious to see how this pans out over the next few months. Keeping fingers crossed! Even if I just feel better because of the endorphin boost I would be very very happy. But it appears that everything else should follow if these particular endorphins are enhanced..We will see!

To Creepy and Scott..I very easily convinced my new psychiatrist to prescribe me LDN. A customer at the organic market I work at who has Lyme told me she gets her prescription compounded at a pharmacy close by, so I gave the pharmacy info to my psychiatrist, told her I wanted to start at .5 mg, and she called the script in. When she called, she realized it might be more expensive for me to titrate up every two weeks or so because I would have to get new scripts filled more often, so she told them to go with 2 mg capsules, after the pharmacist said that is the lowest she ever sees prescribed in the beginning. I decided to just start with 1 mg a day and split the 2 mg capsule. I'm taking it in the morning to avoid feeling funny at night any sleep disturbance. I may go to a night time dose if I think it would benefit me more for reasons that LDN functions in a specific way, but right now I feel fine with the daytime dosing and I'm sticking with it at least for a few weeks.

I know you can get it very cheap online. There are easy to follow directions on how to simply drop a 50 mg tablet in water and use a dropper to measure out the low dose.

If your doctor prescribes it, the medicaiton is about 5 dollars, but it costs, at least at my pharmacy, about 40 dollars to compound it.

Phillipa, I really believe you should give LDN a shot. You really have nothing to lose at this point. Start low at 1 mg, and slowly work your way up to 4.5. I'm doing morning dosing, but night time may work better for you. A good doctor, who does a little research on LDN, will prescribe it to you.

My first go around lasted a month and I started at 1.5mg, tried to increase to 3mg near the end. Later attempts I did much lower doses. I really like this treatment and believe should be as common as aspirin in the psychiatric/fatigue/pain spectrum, regardless of actual underlying cause. Sad but I am one of the few that it just did not mix well with.

It is a great medication with great potential. Do you mind sharing the side effects you experienced?

Do you think there is a chance that more time would have given your body a chance to adjust? There may be some adjustments that your immune systme goes through that could require a while before reaching the state of homeostasis necessary to start feeling good.

So far so good everyone. I'm up to 2 mg and did not even feel side effects that often come with each dosage boost.

Noticeable improvements:
-More relaxed
-Considerably less muscle and tendon tension
-Improved sleep

Noticeable side effects:
-Brief periods of irritability-I'm thinking of dosing 1mg at night and 1 mg during the day to avoid this until I think LDN's effects are more stable.
-Lower libido and difficulty orgasming-this should pass-actually this morning I was extremely sexually charged and kept having sexual dreams. I have read reports of people eventually having higher than normal libidos on LDN.
-I may be feeling a bit more numb than I'd like to, but nothing to really complain about, my mood is good.

I've been on LDN for the past say 3-4 months, and I too feel it had noticeable effects, it did something that other meds didn't do...sorry can't be more specific, hard to describe, but i felt it from the first day (maybe it was placebo). Unfortunately it has totally F'd up sleep, so I take it in the morning, but I still think it affects sleep. I'm tired during the day and have early morning awakening every night. But haven't stopped the LDN because I definitely feel benefits. Will probably go off of it temporarily to see if sleep improves, but 1-2 days suspension didn't resolve sleep issues.
