I saw my pdoc today and after many trials with various SSRI's and SNRI's which didn't work, he wants me to try lamictal. He thinks I may have some dysphoric, mixed state etc. etc. type of bipolar. I am currently on Viibryd which he wants me to taper off of (didn't work) but am also on Remeron which I'll be staying on. How long will it take before I feel any positive effects from lamictal? I'm starting with the starter pack which starts at 25 mg. gradually increasing to 100 mg. after 4 weeks. Also, I'm very anxious to taper off the Viibryd as I've been on SSRI's for 12 years. He said not to worry about this as I'll still be on the remeron which is also an antidepressant and has positive effects on serotonin. He doesn't want me on too many different antidepressants. Any one else go through anything similar?

I have a lot of dsyphoric type stuff. I was having a really hard time in 2006. Alcoholism, suicide attempts, inpatient hospitalizations. Lamictal gets a bad rap around her sometimes but in my case it gave me my life back. I stabilized quickly got sober and haven't had any cutting issues or anything since.
Still struggle with the whole bipolar thing, but it took the edge off. Hope you do ok on it. You may notice some word finding issues. I love to talk politics and philosophy and such and I find I sometimes get stick mid conversation with a word stuck on my tongue. Its annoying!

How long did it take before either of you noticed a difference when starting Lamictal? The dosing schedule to get up to 100 mg. takes a month and I'm wondering if I'll have any positive effects before that. As is everyone else, I'm very anxious to start to feel better.

Many people feel a little better at 50 - 100 mg, but this improvement often doesn't last. You might need to get up to 200 mg for the improvement to "stick".

Thank you all for your replies. I am at day 5 on 25 mg. of lamictal. Counting the days until I get to 50 and then eventually 100 mg.
