My pdoc switched me to Clonazepam from Lorazepam about 3 months ago because of the longer half life. I'd been taking Lorazepam 1mg night and 1/2 mg during day for many yrs but the dr said the clonazepam would be better because it stays in system all day. Well it does work well for anxiety but I can't take it to sleep or I wake up every 2-3 hrs every night. So the past few nights I've been taking 1mg Lorazepam to get a good nights sleep and taking 1/2mg clonazepam during the day. Has anyone else used 2 benzodiazepines at the same time?

> KarenI use 3 of them actually. Clonazepam 8 mg day, Xanax 0.25mg + 10 mg of Valium at bedtime... and i'm still alive... but it's not usual and probably making more anxious and put me in more trouble than anything else... you should talk about it to your PDoc, normally all the benzo have the same effects so you don't need to use 2 of them at the same time, you have to find the good one for you, the main difference is their half-life. The Valium is great for it's long half-life but don't really help with extreme anxiety, can work for panic at dose above 30 mg but it will make you very sleepy. Xanax is perfect for severe anxiety and panic, but with the very short half-life it's not good to use it on a regular basis and the rebound anxiety is worse than the panic or anxiety before you take it and the Clonazepam is not very effective after a while, that's why i'm taking a huge dose of it every day and it's doing nothing for my anxiety... i'm stuck with addiction now, that's the main problem of Benzo and they should not be used for long-term treatment... Did you try a low dose of Seroquel or Remeron for the insomnia? Sometimes it's working very well with little or no side-effects. I use once in a while a low dose of Remeron, around 3,5 mg and with that I can fall asleep faster and stay asleep for 5-6 hours in a row who is not too bad for me... more than 3.5 mg is making very anxious the next morning because of the Noradrenaline effect... the Seroquel have a short half-life and have less side-effects and no hang-over feeling the next morning... Too bad I can't tolerate it now...
Well, you take low dose of benzo, it should not be a problem, but make sure you talk about it to your PDoc... those meds are highly addictive...
Take care,
Vincent

I take l0mg of valium at night and .25mg of xanax at night. I think the xanax initiates fast sleep and the valium continues throughout the next day. Have taken two for may years. Unconventional but necessary. Phillipa

>Thanks for responding....I see that you're trying to taper off clonazepam...is it because you don't need it anymore or because it doesn't work well for you? I like lorazepam a lot better but the longer half life of clonazepam makes it better for during the day.

I don't think I need to take a benzo daily anymore. My goal is to get off daily use and take it about once a week as needed. Klonopin is a good med though, it will help with anxiety, be aware though it can have an effect on mood.
