Any idea why experienced that one time of taking klonopin while reducing xanax and felt suicidal but wasn't? Was it xanax withdrawal even though dose was low? Phillipa

thats too complicated for me.I know some do experience klonopin as a downer.yet it would seem that klonopin wouldve helped you coming off of the xanax.I wonder if you were substituting the correct amt of klonopin?I know valium depressed me, but i wasnt on an antidepressant and I was heading that direction anyway. Were you already depressed and not taking an ssri when you tried k?

I don't think so so long ago? But I've taken klonopin years after this and didn't depress me. Given to me by someone felt guilty and switched back at the time to valium. Which depresses you? Phillipa

Klonopin antagonizes seratonin receptors and can cause depression.

Most benzzodiazapines have some mood stabilizing effect, but Klonopin is is especially useful as a mild anti-manic.

Well not manic for sure so it won't allow serotonin into the synases to stay a while. Phillipa

valium depressed me,but i was already getting depressed, and i believe if id been properly taking an antidepressant w/it,that wouldnt have happened.I tried it at night,it calmed me,but next day, depression loomed. But it would have anyway.Im curious about klonopin and serotonin.Ive heard that anxious people have too much serotonin.I wonder if for me,the klonopin deals w/that? I didnt feel depressed i guess because i had treated it w/zoloft.but i went off zoloft february 2011,havent felt depressed, but still on klonopin.

And no anxiety? I thought the SSRI's were supposed to allow more serotonin into brain? Mine was in reverse first for years benzos then after thyroid problems was given an ad? Phillipa

>Im curious about klonopin and serotonin
Klonopin is a seratonin antagonist and of all the benzodiazipnes is the likeliest to cause depression.
Anxiety disorders involve defeciencies of seratonin in certain areas of the brain.

Valium has no affinity for seratonin receptors.

Thanks for the info, what,in your opinion is the best treatment for gad with panic(occasionally)considering the brain chemistry that goes with that diagnosis?

I would recommend an SSRI, like Paxil or Zoloft. Since it takes a few weeks for the medication to become effective, a benzodiazapine is often recommended to tide one over until the SSRI is effective. Do not do Xanax! Its best to treat panic with Clonazepam or Valium.
Another cool drug which might help out is Prazosin, which has been studied in the treatment of panic disorder.

Why does klonopin make me happy? When you look at the science of it,I should feel depressed.I am prone to depression.Im too confused! Is that my future w/klonopin-sadness,and tolerance???ugh,i didnt like zoloft after awhile. But i keep liking klonopin. What are your plans w/the chimp?

Well, gadchik, I keep asking my pdoc about the chimp, and he seems to be in no hurry to relieve me of her. I guess we still have bigger projects to work on. I think I should just 'relax' about having an anti-anxiety med and feel fortunate that I have a mellow pdoc. You were not around, I don't think, when my last pdoc flipped out on me.
My new pdoc's prefered method, I think, when that magic time comes, would be to use Valium.
If Klonopin works for you, never mind the theory or thousand other people's experiences, you know? I would prefer Klonopin monotherapy to Zoloft monotherapy myself. But that's me, a depressive, so consider the source :)

Chimp? Monkey on back? Hey you take what works for you. What works for one may not work for another. Lucky the docs will prescribe them. Things could be worse. Myself have never liked ad's. First to go them me thinks. Phillipa

Because it relieves your anxiety! IT may also cause some disinhibition for you.
