Anyone know what the odds are of having Cushings with Baseline Normal High Cortisol Level? Had The 24 hour urine test for cortisol and that what it showed. Now need to take the lmg of dexamethasone and have a fasting blood level drawn. Thyroid again high and synthroid upped. Since I have a microadenoma of pituitary discovered on pituitary MRI and Mother died of addrenal failure. Is this hereditary and was also told by endos RN could be from stress.I had to laugh the RN said well don't be stressed and might go down. Well gee if I had a magic wand maybe I could. Anyone know anything about this? Would greatly appreciate. Thanks Phillipa

Phillipa, I thought Cushing's was low cortisol. Or no cortisol.
Are you concerned of an adrenal spike before failure similar to a thyroid spike before failure?

My searches said high? Can you point me to one that says low? As Addisons is the one low? Very confusing. Also hasimotos has a sputtering high and low of the gland at different times during cold weather harder to regulate. The Loop is so hard to understand Phillipa

Phillipa, I had this all backwards. Addison is low, Cushing's is high. Scratch everything I wrote previuosly.
So yes to your initial question. It is possible. When is the challenge test?

I don't know. I wonder how long until the results are in. Sometimes the more I google, the more confused a situation seems. Ugh. It's tough to wait things like this out.

Phillipa,
I belong to a Yahoo group that is for thyroid and adrenal issues. The moderator is a very very smart woman who reversed a lot of her serious illnesses when she treated her adrenals and thyroid properly (most doctors don't get this part of medicine well) It's too labor intensive or something for them to properly diagnose and treat. Anyway, you should visit it and see what Val thinks. They are truly awesome there.
If your interested, I'll post a link for you.

Laney,
I'd be interested myself. I bet Phillipa will be, but she will probably be along in awhile, and can speak for herself.
