Hi Everyone,
I'm in week two of Lamictal (25mg/day) for BPII depression (can't take SSRI's) and I think it's making my OCD much worse. I'm having symptoms that I haven't had in months. I know that my p-doc is going to say that the OCD is caused by an increase in stress, but the OCD tracks perfectly with the Lamictal in my mood journal and it's getting worse by the day.
The L seems to help with some things: I am calmer and a little less depressed. But I can't and won't live with a high level of OCD. P-doc has mentioned Ritalin for depression in the past. Any thoughts?

If OCD is anxiety driven wouldn't a stimulant make the anxiety and OCD worse? Do you have add? Phillipa

Lamictal titration is rough for a lot of folks. A stabilizing dose is usually around 200mg. Not sure about OCD treatment. Maybe your doc can offer something to help you out in the meantime?
Most of the drugs used for OCD are SSRIs =(.

There are several studies made that show Lamictal can worsen OCD in patients with Bipolar II disorder. I myself took Lamictal and had a horrible worsening of my OCD.

Yeah, it's a bummer. My p-doc won't even let me touch an SSRI - they do make me feel pretty awful. I'm envious of people who can take them.

I'm sorry to hear that. The studies I saw showed an OCD increase at 100mg of Lamictal. When did yours start to get worse?

Yes - I would think so. I don't have ADD. I think the doc's just getting desperate.

About 200 mg. It was awful.

Good luck! If you respond well to SSRI's, you should be fine.

I've had songs stuck in my head for several days now. It's happened to me in the past, but now I'm worried that it's the Lamictal making my OCD worse. I'm at 50mg. Is it too early to worry about that?
