Adding Saphris?

Posted by Bob12 on October 11, 2011, at 21:32:43

Hi,
I currently take 17.5 mg of Zyprexa, but still do not sleep very well, and still suffer from paranoia, OCD, and anxiety,
Does anyone have experience with Saphris? I am considering adding 5 mg of Saphris at night, but am worried about potential side effects.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
thanks

I don't know much about Saphris. Isn't that the one with the sudden death warning? I'd be careful combining two+ antipsychotics, even if they're both atypical.

I seem to recall reading somewhere that 2+ antipsychotics can=increased side effects w/o having an increase in desired effects. Plus, with aytpicals, you're looking at extremely high drug acquisition costs.

I have not found this to be true among the people I know who take two APs. In fact, combining an AAP with a first generation AP sometimes produces outstanding results when treating schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorder.

Are there any side effects in particular that you feel are increased by the addition of a second AP?

I am not at all impressed by this correspondence. It is provincial and unconvincing - at least to me.
