Sapphryis

Posted by waterfall on September 7, 2011, at 16:34:59

My doctor is pulling me off of Risperdal because it has caused my prolactin levels to rise very high for two years which can eventually lead to osteoperosis. My endocrynologist put me on a hormone intended to reduce the prolactin level and that sent me into a relapse which I'm still struggling with even though I'm not taking the hormone any longer. So, my psychiatrist is swapping the Risperdal for Sapphryis. I've tried other drugs in this class and for one reason or another they haven't worked out but I'm very apprehensive about leaving Risperdal for Sapphryis. Anyone have experience with Sapphryis they'd like to share? Thanks!

I'm sure your endo did check for pituitary tumor as I have a small one. No rise in prolactin levels though. What med lowers the prolactin levels. Phillipa

Cabergoline was the hormone. It caused intense tension and then my doc took me off Wellbutrin and I dropped all caffeine from my diet. She's since diagnosed me with a mild relapse of bi-polar disorder because the tension has moved up the ladder to agitation despite the fact that I've been off the cabergoline for some time now and it "shouldn't" be affecting me any longer.

I've not heard of this hormone. I do hope you get some responses from someone that knows. Phillipa

I've never taken Risperdal so I can't make a direct comparison, but I have been on both Geodon and Abilify in the past, and I prefer Saphris. I think it is helping with mood and also my sleep schedule has never been this good. It is very sedating, I only take it at night. I fall asleep fast, and the best part is I stay asleep. Getting up in the morning was a little difficult when I first started it, but now I have no problem. I don't really get any bad side effects from it, but I do take a low dose, it is normally taken 5mg or 10mg twice a day, but like I said it is so sedating I couldn't possibly take it in the morning and then function. I hope it work for you. herpills
