Anyone else get scared when going to a new pdoc as have seen so many over the years. I swore I'd never ever go through this process of telling my story. Am or is this normal or abnormal? Phillipa

It is a totally normal feeling. I even get nervous when I go to my existing pdoc. I am actually going to see a new pdoc this week as I'm thinking about switching and I'm totally nervous about it. We have to try to not think about it too much (easier said than done). Good luck with your new pdoc.

I think it is completely normal. I get nervous too. I am also tired of telling my story over and over again. I finally wrote it out and just hand it to new doctors.

Used to not be so hard as uncomplicated but now older, more meds, more physical diagnoses and it's kind of embarrassing at times when you hear yourself. Writing out love it!!!! Phillipa

I think the reason many of us have so much to write is because Depression/Bipolar/Mood disorders are so complicated. It affects our lives on every level. Not only do we suffer physical ailments, like everyone else, but we also have the hanging cloud of Depression/Bipolar which needless to say complicates things.
I think the purpose of this site is for us to have a place to vent our emotions, seek encouragement, and find advice from people who have experiences like our own. Friends and family can listen, but for myself, there are so few people who can truly understand. That's why it's important to continue to write and share our experiences.
Anyways, I wish you the best and hope your appointment with the new Pdoc goes well.

Sailboat thanks very true. No one understands not ever docs. If only they could step into our shoes and feel just like us for a day or two treatment would or might change and the docs would understand hopefully. I know they probably would be glad to be back to who they were. Phillipa

I don't like meeting new pdocs either. I have a history of hospitalizations, jail time, substance misuse, and psychosis, so its more than a little bit embarrassing to walk into somebody's office, sit down, and tell them my story.
Try to take it in stride. You seem reasonably well-adjusted; you just need some tranquilizers and that's a what shrinks do--prescribe medications to keep you going.

Normal. After last doc,I actually had some unusual confidence for me. I mean, not many could be worse. And I felt free to walk that session, too,
When in October is your session?
(Of course I'd be nervous!)

FB I think middle of October. If I could settle down my brain I'd be okay. If only benzos still worked for me. I also realized today that when moved here say a pdoc had read his book. He spent and hour with me and then said I don't want you for a patient as I'm on my own and don't want hassel of paperwork for medicaire. I was stunned. So that's also a trigger. Also the pdoc that was recommended to me by a babbler when moving here in a google search saw he's taking new patients but the one who I had to see in that practice is still there and that practice said if you see one doc have to only see that doc can't switch. But six years later think it still holds and he'd refuse me if knows saw a doc there? Love Phillipa

Phillipa, I don't think you would be refused as patient by the practice because of one doctor. It might feel awkward at first going (I might worry about bumping into him), but I don't think it works that way.
Isn't it something to feel like someone, a doctor, won't see us for some reason? There is something not right about that. Unfortunately, I harbor the same fears.
Courage.

FB don't care if saw the other doc the policy of the practice is that if you see one doc tough if you don't work well together. It's that doc or none go elsewhere. I have no idea how the neighbor switched docs there but he does have severe bipolar? Phillipa
