Nardil is apparently the KING?

Posted by clubfitter on August 24, 2011, at 20:26:15

Seems like everybody here is on Nardil and it gets the most "good press" around this board. Psycho Babble sponsored by Nardil. I think eventually that may have to be the move for me....YIKES!

Nardil is very good for resistant neurotic type depressions, OCD, panic disorder etc, but, havign said that, there are other drugs that are very effective that have much better side effect profiles.

Nardil is what you try after everything else has failed - and note that it isnt a miracle pill, like other antidepressants, it doesnt work for everybody.

True many have tried and failed the med on this board. A google search may yield some of the names. Phillipa

Sadly, there seems a small group of people who dont seem to be helped by drug therapy - I think their depression must be somehow different, I'm sure science will find the answer some day, but it isnt much help to them now.

Perhaps we need to bring back Dexamyl for thsoe who dont get releif through "propper" antidepressants?

Although I'm on Parnate rather than Nardil, I think the answer to your question is the same. You hear a lot of discussion on this board about how great Nardil and Parnate are, because most of us have taken so many other drugs that either didn't work or didn't work AND had terrible side-effects, that by the time we get to an MAOi, if it works, we can't help but sing its praises.

It's like not eating for a week and then being given a piece of bread and water. That bread and water is going to taste so delicious to you that you want to let everyone know.

It's not to say that the MAOis aren't good medications in and of themselves. I think it's human nature to be more appreciative to relief from suffering when the suffering has been long-lasting.

I think you described it very well Policebox. I'm currently on Parnate and after 4 years of running through all the traditional antidepressant meds with no affect, it was surprising to finally find some relief from depression (although the Parnate doesn't seem as strong anymore after 5 months).
