Posted by crazyjoe on August 13, 2011, at 12:25:17

is any one out there diabetic and taking atypical medication--i am on metformin for diabetes 2 and my dr will not prescribe them to me because the raising of the blood sugar level---says we would have to monitor it real carefully...any thoughts

Listen to your docs. Maybe a low dose of perphenazine or loxapine?

get a free blood sugar meter and test it. Geodon made me diabetic, which went away when I stoped it, after a while. I took metformin for a while. Abilify made me hypoglycemic, so I had to eat a lot. I take zyprexa now and it does not affect my sugars, I'm off the metformin.

How much Zyprexa do you take and does it make you gain weight? Or have you gained any weight from Zyprexa?

It hasn't effected your blood sugar?

I take 15mg zyprexa. Yes I gained weight on zyprexa, I also have lost much weight on zyprexa. Right now I'me 200 lbs, 5'10". No its not affecting blood sugar, geodon made me diabetic, which went away a little while after stoping it.

In my opinion your diabetic doc is on targit. Why make an illness with medical isues that affects all body systems worse with a med. Especially a med that is measured via blood sugar testing etc. Phillipa
