I have been on lorazepam for 10 yrs. I successfully weaned myself from 3 to 1 mg over a period of 2 months. I just went without the 1 mg for 12 days. the past 3 dAYS HAVE BEEN A LIVING HELL. Last night I was suicidal, rapid heat beat rushing in my head, tremmbling, parestesias, I thought I was dying. Then I realized it was withdrawal. I took 1 mg of lorazepam and the symptoms were gone in 30 minutes. does anyone know naturopathic way to get off this drug???? Will i really experience symptoms for 6 months????

I know how you feel, I experienced withdrawal from Klonopin (considered to be one of the worst benzos in this regard) on several occasions, and it was VERY unpleasant. In my case, the last time was voluntary, because I failed numerous attempts at weaning off. I went cold turkey, which I neither condone nor recommend. Life was hell for several days, so bad at times that my wife wanted to take me to the ER. I didn't sleep for maybe 5 days, pills didn't help. The worst was past at that point, with a protracted adjustment period for the next few months. And I don't mean adjust as in having an urge to take the med again. I felt that my body/mind was healing from damage done from years of taking the drug. It was a recovery process. During my withdrawal, I learned a lot from www.benzo.org.uk - a high-quality resource about benzo addiction, withdrawal and recovery.
I'm glad I stopped the benzos, as I did all psych meds over 5 years ago. I wish you well on your quest!

There are certainly things that can, to a small extent, give you the relief that benzos do. The most effective and clean are skullcap, lemon balm and zizyphus. Zizyphus is contained in many traditional Chinese medicine formulas. Can you get some guidance with those? I have found them very helpful. I could tell you what I take, but it is very individualised. It would, certainly, be a non-stimulating formula with zizyphus in it.
Acupuncture can help too, but perhaps depends on the practitioner, and anyway, you would need it every day.
I assume these herbs are not addictive in the same way as benzos. I cannot believe they would be as hard to give up. But they help because they affect the same receptor, I imagine.

It is pretty bad. Up there with opiate withdrawal.

Yeah, benzo withdrawal is pretty scary for some :-/ I am very sorry.
Right now you are symptom free on 1mg? If so, give yourself lots of credit IMO for that reduction.
My thoughts are that you might be more successful if you reduce that last milligram more slowly. How slowly, I can't advise. However, if you take a longer view on this, you will likely have less withdrawal stress to body and mind.
Would it be o.k. with you to take one month, two months, three months to really kick it? That way, your body isn't bouncing through rebound, and you can begin to add the support supplements and give them time to kick in.
Benzo withdrawal can be super tough for some (me :-/) It's not about you or
strength or will.Do you need to be off this last mg asap?

deni,
You wrote,[...a living hell...suicidal...thought I was dying...withdrawal..does anyone know...symptoms for 6 months????...].
There are cases of people having withdrawal symptoms for more than 6 months.
I could help you because I have withdrawn from the same drug prescribed to me. I was not told by the doctor that there would be a withdrawal or that the drug could have other adverse consequences.
I know of two ways that one can be free from this drug, one by human achievement and the other by divine accomplishment.
There are prohibitions to me here from Mr. Hsiung that keeps me from helping you from my perspective, so I want you to know that there is someone here that came back from the state that you describe here as a {LIVING HELL}. I have been to that hell and have returned to life, and life more abundantly. I have come back from the dead. And I did it my way. And my way is prohibited by he administrtion from being posted here as per that it has been revealed to me a commandment from the God that I give service and worship to, to me, being the foundation of Jewdaism. I can not post the link to that prohibition here as there is another prohibition here about posting links to other posts here that the post could qualify as prohibited to be posted.
There is a way for you to rid yourself of this drug, for I have. And if I have overcome, could not you?
You see, I am trying to save lives here and help people from getting a life-ruining condition from these drugs and to be free from the slavery of depression and addiction. About 40,000 people died last year from psychotropic drugs per one way or another. That figure could be a great underestimation, for some give a 100 to 1 ratio to those type of reports so that it could have been 40,000,000 people that died, becuse if one taking psychotropic drugs died of cardiac arrest, how do you know if the drug caused it or not? Even if the 40,000 number is used, going forward, could not millions of people die from psychotropic drugs?
Now if more people die {each month} from psychotropic drugs than the number of people killed in the 911 attacks in New York, which is the most horrific?
Now I do not want you to die from this drug, but there are cases of suicide when one is in withdrawal. The hell that you describe could drive some to kill themselves, for I know first hand.
Now if you would like to know how you could be free from this drug, look at what you could hear as revealed to me:
A. The hell that you describe is a realm that has been reveled to me as death. A living death.
B. There is a new realm that is life and peace.
C. Going from one realm to the other has been revealed to me.
D. The revelation is from a Jewish perspective.
E. You will take something each day to get to the new realm.
F. I do not know anything about herbs
G. To find out this revelation: to help in withdrawal
1. to have active dialog here because of another prohibition to me by the administartion here called a 3-consecutive post rule.
2. The scriptures that the Jews use have this revelation contained therein.
3. note that I am prohibited from posting educational material that contains the prohibited. This includes the era of time from from 1933 to 1945. A lot concerning the mind-set of that era and concerning nerve agents is involved in that prohibition to me here by Mr. Hsiung. Be advised, that if I was not prohibited from posting this educational material here, that there could be the potential IMHO for those that killed themselves here or if anyone that has been murderd by someone that had visited this site, to still be alive. You see, these drugs can induce a mind-alterd state fot one to kill themselves or comit mass murder. But the minds that are in a living death, a hell as you describe, could also be murderd but alive, a living death.
Now many here precribe to the {human achievement} method to withdrawal from these drugs and (redacted by respondent}.
If you would like to have dialog here with me then accept this opportunity to hear this revelation that IMHO could save your life. But if you are looking for human achievement methods to withdrawl from this drug, then reject this opportunity now.

In regards to the choices to accept or reject, I am withdrawing that aspect to this situation. Instead of posting {I accept} or {I reject}, I would like for you ot use the forum mail if you are going to let me know your response to my invitation.

Easiest way to wean off of that last 1mg is to change your med to diazepma, 6mg per day (3x2mg pills) and reduce by half a pill per week... a decrease so small the body wont notice it.
A natural calming herb libe Valerian might also be of assistance

If you cant get diazepam, then reduce the lorazepam to 0.75mg per day for 2 weeks, then 0.5mg per day for 2 weeks, then 0.25mg per day for 2 weeks, then stop.

Congrats on reduction of your Ativan !
I was weaned off Ativan 10 mg/day (yes, I know !!!) within 2 days thru dialysis (for my lithium intoxication). Let me tell you, it wasn't exactly fun...
Now I use oxazepam 15 mg x 4, which equals Valium 5 mg x 4.

try nuerotin or lyrica because they are the best with having benzodiazpine withdrawl. Lyrica has some euphoric value so try nuerontin and see what you think.
