I took Amitriptyline in May only for 4 weeks on a low dose of 10mg. Near week 4, I woke with crushing chest pains, I went to Docs who told me it was Acid reflux but did a ECG anyway which was normal.
That chest experience along with horrid cognitive difficulties forced me to wean off over a period of a week.
The problem is I am now having serious vertigo like, dizzy head, heavy head, out of it, drunk feeling, lightheadedness.
I can hardly walk without becoming unsteady on my feet.
I went to the Docs last week who said it was benign paroxysmal positional vertigo and said it will go away.
I dont believe them - im convinced the ami has screwed my brain up.
Has anyone else had a similar problem after coming off a drug ? Anyone had BPPV ? How long did it last this is horrid.

It sounds to me like an extension of withdrawal. That's a powerful med and your system is trying to adjust to the absence of the wide variety of things the med was doing. Your symptoms are common with SSRI withdrawal, but maybe even worse in your case because of the antihistamine withdrawal and other stuff too. I felt like that when I weaned off Paxil. Happened a couple other times too. For me the time period it took for things to adjust and clear up ranged from 2 weeks to 6-8 weeks.
Low dose or not, 4 weeks or not, doesn't matter. That is plenty of time and enough of a dose to set up a bizarre withdrawal period. It usually happens the worst when a med is weaned too quickly.
I think everything will be fine.

Go to the pharmacy and buy your self some Meclizine 25mg. and take two at bedtime, these are an antihistamine used for travel sickness, nausea and dizeiess, and will help you feel better.
Just because an effect happens while you're taking a drug, it doesnt mean the drug was to blame - its like saying my mother had a lamb chop for dinner then died in the night, so therefor lamb chops kill you - there isnt nessecerily a link between the two events
