i don't think my doc believes me but i'm starting to think that klonopin really puts me in a hyper miserable mood and am thinking of going back to ativan...i think klonopin is working against my anxiety...does this make any sense to anyone??

Definitely. Klonopin really exacerbated my depression. It made me feel a whole lot worse than before I was on the drug. Felt so depressed, miserable, constant crying... Some people do really well on Klonopin, but I found it to be a horrible drug that I would never touch again. I ended up going back on to Valium.

Klonopin can make me depressed after a while.

I think its fairly common. After several months, Klonopin made me a bit dysphoric. Other people experience depression or worsened depression. All benzos can do it--they're tranquilizers, after all; it happens--but Klonopin in particular seems to induce and/or worsen depression. If you read the old prescribing guides, Klonopin is described as the last benzo one should use for anxiety. I guess shrinks don't listen...Klonopin is now *the* reigning benzo of anxiety treatment.

Its funny. Conazepam has done different things for my anxiety and depression at different times.
It has been very helpful when anxiety escalates to psychotic proportions. It has also been helpful when my mood is cycling.
However, over time it does tend to make me dysphoric (mainly unable to experience pleasure).
I would much prefer ativan, but I don't feel right asking my doctor for a different benzodiazapine.

Link why don't you feel right asking for another? First dose of klonopin on trying to switch from xanax and felt suicidal and wasn't. Doc immediately switched me back and was fine. I'd ask to switch. Phillipa

hyper-miserable is a good definition.
this last time i used klonipin i became excessively aggrivated, dysphoric and well, really really irritable, EVerything p*ssed me off and then i'd get self abusive, very very negative.i went off it fairly quickly.
However, i was also on abilify and the pdoc thought that was cause also.so i went off both at same time. never for sure which or if both caused it.

Clonazepam can (anecdotaly) make some people more depressed. Ask if you can try Xanax instead, it has a mildly antidepressant effect, so you shouldnt get more depressed on it, and you might get a bit better.

I agree completely about Xanax. I take 1.5mg daily and it does not depress me. When I tried another benzo, valium, terrible depression. Just my experience, but xanax is supposed to have some antidepressant properties.

Hmmm...glad I saw this post. I was put on clonazepam about 2 months ago and it has been much better for me than the alprazolam (xanax)...xanax would just drop me and I could feel the weight of the world on me and felt that it actually spun me into a worse cycle of anxiety. BUT now, on clonazepam, lately I have been feeling depressed and unable to get out of this zone. I am working and able to fake a smile and go to dinner with clients, but I would much rather be spending it in the hotel...disconnected.
This is the end of the thread.
