I take 30mgs/day Abilify. I was taking 20mgs/day Celexa for psychotic depression until I got apathetic and dropped it. Now I'm wondering if maybe I should give wellbutrin a try. Not only am I feeling "down," I'm lazy and apathetic as can be. No voices anymore, just...a dulness, a lack of initiative and vigor. Do you guys think Wellbutrin would help? Or cause more problems? My anxiety is minimal right now.

CE how do your parents feel you are doing? Home yet? I personally feel that the celexa was working, you have experienced some big changes in a short time. Might want to call your doc? Phillipa

Hey Phillipa,
Yeah, the Celexa helped, but its not exactly stimulating. I don't want to change my meds all the time, but I would like something that might help me lose weight (I've gained 70lbs since this time last year) and I also want something to help me get up the energy to go about daily life. Maybe re-start the celexa and add wellbutrin? I have an appointment here on the 8th and then they'll probably schedule a psychiatric appointment (its public health, so they have to evaluate me before I can see a doctor).
I'm back home and I'm feeling much, much better. Things really are looking up now that I'm back in a small town where there's actually stuff to do; before I was stuck in a boring town with nothing to do and nowhere to go. I'm really happy I'm moving.

CE, good news about your move :-)
(No med advice here. Sorry. Good luck going forward. Other than start on med at a time. If Wellbutrin is a possible go, I would think that before the celexa?)

I'm very curious about this too.
When I started Abilify (only 5mg) 6 weeks ago as an add-on for MDD, no psychotic features. I felt a surge of energy, great sleep, motivation etc.
Now I'm feeling incredibly lazy and slowed down again. Also, paradoxically, insomnia. I thought it was my SSRI, but now I've began suspecting the Abilify.
I've thought about adding Wellbutrin and/or dropping the Abilify. Or increasing it? At a loss, so is my dr, Abilify is one weird med.
Christ_empowered, have you considered lowering your dose? It might be more activating, and still retain its AP features?

hey. I think part of the problem is that Abilify has a long half-life, so after a while you have build up, I think. So even if your dose is low, like yours is, over the long haul you might end up with a higher blood level than you had when you first started taking it.
I have considered lowering my dose. I will need to talk to a doctor about it, of course, but I think it would be beneficial.

You might be right, maybe I should lower the dose. I'll see what the doc says.
Are you still thinking about adding Wellbutrin? Might be worth a shot if you don't suffer from severe anxiety.
