wow my doc 5 years ago seemed to get and distribute them much more frequently---brand names---to try and save his patient some money for a while

Medical Associations are generaly against doctors using them - they tend to lead to patients being started on expensive brand name drugs, rather than equaly effective generics, amoung other issues.
