some thoughts from those who have used both klonopin and ativan ---does klonopin induce more anger/ittitability in you --its seems to do so with me---ativan is fine but around its six hour end time get fairly tired then fine --any thoughts

Klonopin will depress me w/ tendencies toward crying. Maybe your version of irritable.

I can say ditto to you experience of ativan. Leaves me dull headed, but not raw or feeling down. I guess enough of it does help sleep. Those extra two hours or so over xanax make a big difference when counting the nightly hours of sleep on one hand.

What are you thinking of putting together?

Klonopin is a horrible drug in my opinion. Made my depression a whole lot worse to the point where I was constantly crying. Some people do well on it, but I certainly wouldn't take it ever again. I did much better with good old Valium.

I do prefer lorazepam to clonazepam. I feel it has a more transparent effect on my mood.

Two issues to consider in the Xanax vs. Ativan vs. Klonopin comparisons are which of them gets you closest to your authentic self, and reinforcement.

By authentic self I mean the you you would be without the anxiety that causes you to need medication. As opposed to simply feeling better due to some sort of artificial "high."

Reinforcement issues are the conscious "liking" of a drug that might lead to taking more due to the liking. Xanax might be the worse for that, with Ativan less, and Klonopin not at all.

Any interesting way to look at these meds. According to this, xanax would remain my benzo of choice. Calm, happy, not wildly so, not grasping for more.

Thanks Fred.

Ativan is used in hospitals. It does induce some euphoria IF you have very bad anxiety and it tends to relieve it and gives you feeling of wellbeing and calmness. Klonopin is also used in hospitals but it tends to make people depressed. At least when I took it it made me depressed because it slows down nuerotransmitters and other electrical firing in the nerve endings of the brain.

I suggest you ask for someting called Tranxene. It's a long acting benzo that doesnt have a reputation for being abused. BUT all benzodiapines have a potential for abuse. Just some have less than others. I was Xanax and xanax doesnt last very long and that's why its abused frequently to keep the calming effect of it going. Tranxene is a choice that you have. I just don't know what your doctor would say to this.

Try to stay on ativan if you can't get tranxene.

Matt

I tried it once but think the dose was too low as anxiety sky rocketed so the doc put me back on ativan taking that then with luvox as a high dose 250mg. See at that dose ativan is the benzo that is okay to take with luvox the others arent. Phillipa
