Saw my pdoc yesterday and he wants to add zyprexa to my current meds. I'm taking 30 mg. remeron and 50 mg. pristiq. Also, .5 klonopin 2x a day. Have been on the pristiq for 4 weeks. My pdoc didn't seem to think that pristiq was going to work if I haven't seen any response yet but I know others on this board said it took them up to 8-12 weeks for a response. In the meantime, I am having terrible anxiety and obsessive thinking. Will the zyprexa help with this? I'll be taking a low dose starting at 2.5 then up to 5 mg. Will it cause weight gain at such a low dose? Also, how long before I'll notice a response?

Good idea.
zyprexa has always been my saving grace. at 5 i dont think i've ever gained weight. its normally once i go to 10.
and yes the pristiq never seems to kick in till about 10 weeks.
so you can consider the zyprexa an augmentation that you may be able to drop once the pristiq kicks in (if it does) but you do need to give it much more time.
remeron can make you gain some weight, but pristiq is weight neutral and i've known some that lost some lbs on it.
Yes zyprexa will work on anxiety AND any type of obsessive thinking.i personally have always seen an almost immediate result. normally within 24 to 48 hours.
i wish you the best.

Pristiq is weight neutral I didn't know that. Doesn't regular effexor cause weight gain? My pdoc takes pristiq herself. How do you feel it compares to my ridiculously low dose of luvox that won't let me go. ll years and it's got a hold on me. Thanks Phillipa.

i think a side effect is actually weight loss. but my doc says its pretty neutral. but that all depends on your system and what other meds your on.
as for effexor i dont know the official side effects but i personally lost about 20lbs on that one. though i wasnt on it very long...wow, bad experience there.
i would guess since they both effect norepinephrine that it is very...activating.>>Doesn't regular effexor cause weight gain? My pdoc takes pristiq herself. How do you feel it compares to my ridiculously low dose of luvox that won't let me go. ll years and it's got a hold on me. Thanks Phillipa.
sorry dont really know anything about luvox.
that's one i haven't been on. and i think i was actually told not to try that one...cant remember why. it was a while ago.
it might be because it is an ssri and effexor/pristiq is SNRI.
ive had pretty poor luck on ssri's.

Thanks for the info. on zyprexa. It's given me some hope that I can get some temporary relief. I don't know why my pdoc felt so strongly about the pristiq not working. He was ready to switch me to anafranil for the next med to try. I was the one that asked him to give it a few more weeks so then he agreed to the zyprexa augment.
Pristiq has been weight neutral for me, maybe I have even lost a few pounds. When I started remeron, I gained 10 pounds so it wasn't too bad considering I've heard of much worse weight gain from others.

Zyprexa is good for all that. It kickes in right away. Might cause weight gain at that dose. I know if I take none, I don't eat. Then a little 1.25mg of zyprexa, 45min later and I can eat again.
